My brother is on the coach that has been turned away from the ground at Macc.  Apparently, the Town coach is stuck in traffic on the M62 due to a pile up! Has anyone else heard this?

Exactly my thoughts, best way is down to chesterfield and through Buxton I'd have thought.

I can't believe they've gone via the M62, unless they were picking up somewhere en route.

It's a massive detour anyway going on the M62! It's about 30 miles longer plus you've got to go round past Manchester on a Friday night. Truely weird decision.

I do think it'll be off.

Exactly well said Wikkers

After 5 hours or more on a coach, we certainly don't want it to be played tonight

That's the only reason I can think of for going M62. Maybe picking someone up at Ferrybridge?

It's shut J22-24 so they're a good hour or more away, without delays.

That would be ridiculous! It's not as though there were no intentions to show up. It's not the fault of GTFC that an unfortunate accident occurs on the same day they travel to the game.

I'm not disputing what you have said, just merely stating that I think it would be wrong to penalise GTFC for something out of there control

Regardless of fault or blame, the onus is on the visiting team to make sure they show up. I don't know, what precedents are there for this? All I can think of is when Middlesbro got sick shortly before a game, forfeited the match (and were relegated from the Prem at the end of the season?)

I don't think anyone was suggesting we should forfeit the game - just comparing it to FA run youth league where this situation would be a forfeit - even if not a team's fault.

To an extent yes but hardly a result of carelessness. Middlesborough could easily have fielded a team but decided not to, There are mitigating circumstances. Not to dissimilar to the petrol strike where quite a few games were called off.

Home teams don't forfeit the match when they're unable to provide a suitable playing surface which is often out of their control.  I can't see any logic in the away team being punished for delays that are out of their control.  The Middlesbrough case may have been that they could have provided a team, albeit reserve and youth players, but chose not to.

Its not that uncommon for games to be slightly delayed due to motorway congestion, even at the highest level. I suspect that so long as there is good communication, and that Town arrive before a certain time, then they'll get the game on. There'll be a few stiff legs though.

They may as well show it, all their gear would be set up ready, the question is if it's called off and play it tomorrow, will they show tv coverage then?

Sounds as if we wouldn't be able to play tomorrow due to having to give 5 days notice on re-arranged matches.

have mixed feelings here as to wether the game should be played tonight.
On the positives for it going ahead the players may possibly be raring to go after being on the road for so long, also for the supporters of both sets of fans who have travelled to make the game tonight. Dont forget a win would put us top of the league again albeit probably for only 24 hours but psychologically it could send a message to kiddy and wrexham.
On the negatives, the players could be fatigued and stiff from being so long on the coach and not at peak optimum physical condition. Also pre match meal etc and preparation have all gone to member as it were and getting the boby properly fuelled would be  a tough judgment. We dont need any more fixture conestion and if the others all play and win tommorrow then we would drop a couple more places, lets not forget we were top the other week, suddenly 4th or 5th doesnt sound so good!

Hope the right decision takes place and if we play and get any sort of result it would be very hard earned indeed. If we dont play at least we would be better prepared for the rearranged fixture.

On the positive side it could be an omen - us oldies remember the 1971/72 season and the abandonment of the game against Exeter etc etc, although that was at home, may be just may be it could prove to be a decider game albeit away from home................. !!!???

I heard that it was caused by a lorry crashing into the central reservation and that there were no fatalities.

Playing on a Friday night is really an accident waiting to happen (really no pun intended as I know it was a fatal accident). The M62 is a nightmare especially on a Friday and accidents are a regular occurance (almost daily) near Huddersfield. The team should have set off this morning and not 1 o'clock as it gets very busy in the afternoon on that route. Interestingly you never see premier league games broadcast on a friday night. Non league footy arranged for a different day to saturday, why FFS? Who apart from the two teams involved give a shite. Bloody ridiculous!

Hey, keep your knickers on Highcliff. If the team set off in the morning they could have had a relaxing lunch in Macc before going on to the ground. By the way, have you ever travelled on the m62 on a friday? Its a flippin nightmare, 50mph limits all over the place permanently and accidents galore

What time do you have your tea ?  they left at 1pm.

And if they had left last night they could have had a spot of breakfast.the point is they left at 1 pm , 99% of the time this would get them to Macc with hours to spare, Have i used the 62 on a friday?.... Yes More times than i care to remember.

There were no fatalities thankfully and no one was actually injured.

Quoted Text
All three lanes westbound shut near Huddersfield.

A serious accident involving a lorry closed the M62 through West Yorkshire on Friday afternoon, causing travel chaos for thousands of communters.

The HGV collided with the central reservation between junctions 23 and 22 on the westbound carriageway at 2.56pm.

The lorry shed it's load of wiring and came to rest on the hard shoulder.

There were no injuries in the incident but emergency teams had to work for a number of hours clearing away debris from the road before it could be opened to traffic.

Glad to hear it.

One thing that gets on my wick is news channels rushing to be the first to 'break the story' and not worrying about getting the facts correct. The channels over here are appalling for doing this.

Once again glad no one was injured

Can't believe people are criticising the club over this. It's the Conference that are pathetic, how can it not be possible to find a referee to referee a professional football match.

Just back!  Match officials are the only reason the game can't go ahead tomorrow. They can't be contacted until the morning giving no time to cement things. All other arrangments could have been me tonight.  Policing, Stewards, Team stop over if required.

We move onto Forest Green Rovers Tuesday and hope for some slip ups from our rivals tomorrow.

I still don't understand why the officials for tonight's match couldn't have refereed the match on Saturday...
