Not really sure on his style of play - would people be happy if we did sign Gillespie?

Gillespie is 29 and a free agent. Had a lot of injuries but has a good goalscoring record at a level above this. Don't know really.

Now that we saving money on Arnold, maybe only covering 1/2 his wages due to loan instead of permanent deal, could we go back to Solihull with a higher offer for Bogle????

Steven Gillespie has struggled with injuries for years now, would be a waste of a wage IMO.

Gillespie would be a poor signing in my opinion. 60 goals in 240 games is poor if you ask me even if it is at the level above. He looks like a player who is on his way down. Much rather have Bogle.

Highly doubt it will be Ryan Bird now.
Quoted from Portsmouth News | Posted: 14th July 2014
It was an eye-catching run-out from the 26-year-old as Andy Awford’s side ran out 4-0 winners in Saturday’s pre-season opener.

Entering as a half-time substitute, Bird was involved in all four of the goals which arrived in the second period, including netting himself.

At the season’s end, Pompey activated a 12-month option in Bird’s contract to keep him at Fratton Park.

The fact they opted to keen him for another year suggests to me the new manager   wants to keep him and now he has had a good pre season that completely rules that one out. The only name I have heard is Bogle.

Got a feeling it could be Jon Parkin. Hurst said the other day one of his targets could be training with another club and would have to wait and see what happened with that. Jon Parkin has been training with Lincoln but never played in there chesterfield friendly and simpson stated he was only training with them. I would be happy with this as long as we sign a Bogle/Williams type player as well.

Didn't he have a second hand shop in Oxford Street? Thought he'd have been a bit slow these days.

Target man. Bit of pace, powerful...the description reminds me of Tounkara!

Bit injury prone over last few seasons after a great spell at Crawley.

1 goal every 4 or 5 matches and only played 40 games in 3 seasons. My hairs are resolutely refusing to stand to attention!

Anyone know what type of striker he is? Looks like a big, target man kind of player which is good news as should give good competition for LJL and hopefully he starts ahead of him...

His record suggests he doesn't score that many though so a goalscorer has still got to be signed.

Have we ever had an American play for us before?

Jake Sagare who played 1 game for us was a Yank.

I also see that Pitman played for England C even though he was born in Oklahoma!

Must have a UK passport, otherwise he wouldn't get a visa to play given his/our level.

Bit worried about us signing an American. Before you know it we'll have Dolly Parton singing to us in the 'half-time show',
and cheerleaders dancing and cavorting and giving me a semi spoiling the traditional nature of the game here.

"Born in Oklahoma City to an airman and a hospital carer, my family moved to England when I was still young. I took part in many sports, but it was football that enthralled me.

Now 27, and into my 20th year playing football, I have garnered some ethics that I expect will serve me perpetually. I started playing like most kids - kicking a ball around with my friends, Before school, at lunch and again when I got home. Eventually I joined my local grass roots team Brackley Athletic, aged seven.

When introduced to the strict and professional nature of Premiership club Aston Villa, I signed a youth contract aged 9. I'm indebted to my family for travelling to Birmingham four times a week to get me to training sessions and matches. It was here I started to learn the importance of diet and nutrition, as well as; time management, self-analysis and team cohesion.

My time at Nottingham Forest aged twelve to twenty, was a poignant period also. Though mindful of the task in hand (that the industry nurtured some 98% of academy players, who don't graduate past their 18th birthday) I left home at sixteen to benefit from a sports scholarship, in pursuit of becoming a Professional. proof of my ability, belief and my persistence lays in the verity that I earned the elusive Professional contract, at one of Europe's most prestigious and respected football clubs, and have gone on to play over 200 games since. Though It hasn't been plain sailing, and many doors have been forced shut in front of me.

A penchant for study, compounded by a union with fantastic resources (and a veracious circle of peers,) has aided my development away from football. However, I'm always keen to connect with new people, shed some light and broaden my rumination.

Feel free to get in touch and Thanks for reading."

I can't remember if it was Canada or USA but didn't we have some sort of feeder club over there at one point? It may have only lasted a year.

Dont post rumours/gossip on here, but im good friends with a guy in the know, the kevin phillips rumour had some truth to it, we approached him and his terms were to come in as head coach and play when needed, we were negotiating with him when leicester came in, offered him a coaching role on more money and we never heard from him again! Something to discuss for the night i suppose

To be honest i think that if  Phillips had come to us it would have been a fantastic coup
for the club, OK his playing days are getting near to over, but his knowledge of forward
play, type of supply to forwards  require and movement/positioning is exactly what we are missing, i hope this rumour is true, because at least it means that the club are aware of
the shortcomings that might be the reason we continue to be non league.

It could well have been a great move. Buckley and Dave Booth both signed experienced strikers to help the other forwards. Without Trevor Wymark to learn from, Drinkell and Wilkinson would not have been anything like as good.
