Firstly, I am not a Paul Hurst fan, however I have approached the recent friendlies with an open mind and have attended most with a view to seeing what has been learned from last season and what improvements are in place in order to push us over the line to promotion this season. Unfortunately, the answer is NOTHING ! Its the same old same old story.
I fear we will have to get used to reading Grimsby Town 0 more often than we would like over the new season. After every game its the same story, "If only we had taken our chances", "the keeper pulled off a great stop", "we hit the post" etc etc, these are not reasons, they are excuses !
Lets be honest, Hurst should be a defensive coach at best as he has no tactical knowledge beyond our own eighteen yard box. I believe that he has rightly identified that we have the players to change to a 433 formation, however, the players need to be instructed and coached about their individual roles within this formation, this is the responsibility of the manager, if he does not understand it neither will the players !
Paul reminds me of a man who is not very good at jigsaws, he is able to identify the pieces but is unable to fit them all together !
Some of Hurst's recent comments just about sum the man up;
"Last year I thought we played it quite well until the last little bit"..........Doh ! "There are encouraging signs for Grimsby Town's attacking partnerships".................Where ? "I believe that LJL is the best in the division at what he does"...................What does he do ? Etc Etc.
I believe Hurst should be given twelve games, if we are not top three after this and playing a better style of football he should go, no more excuse's, just go !
I realise that this post may upset some of Paul's love children and I await the red crosses of disgust ! However this is a forum to air your views, and this is mine like it or not.
My concern for the site is that it is becoming a little like posting in North Korea where we must blindly follow the teaching's of Kim Jong Hurst or face the consequences !!!!!!!!!
And finally, before I am branded a miserable old git, I can tell you that I am not ! I am, like others, frustrated at the underperformance of a once proud club.
UTM.

Time is not running out, It's never too late to sign the 20+ goalscorer who will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

I'm staggered that you think there is a single person on this site "blindly" following Hurst or that differing views don't exist here. There are plenty who are willing to give him more time this season (ie more than zero games) but that's not the same as being a sheep/blind/Paul's love children etc.

I am a supporter of PH but certainly not one of his love children and not that blind that I'd support any manager through thin and thin but...... To say he has 'no tactical knowledge beyond our own eighteen yard box' is so stupid it's almost laughable... like reading a Daily Mail column full of hyperbole and blind ignorance of the facts...so we move on.
Similarly I was amazed (actually, I wasn't to be honest) at someone on another thread who questioned the logic of starting with two of the three traillists. Surely, it's obvious... to have another look at them. You, me, hundreds of fans might well have decided they are not good enough but the only person who matters - PH - clearly wanted another look to help make his mind up and do what (he thinks) is best for the club
Why this total 100% emphasis on winning friendlies??
Does the lack of goals worry me? A little, but I'd rather the defence be looking solid to be honest (it was a lot more so last night) as all top sides are built on sound foundations.
Still believe Hurst will get a proven goalscorer in to the club at some point - it might be 2/3 months into the season and a loan deal. He knows that lack of goals was a problem last season but he is not just going to fritter cash on anyone. Hence the Bogle deal seems to have faltered - stupid money being asked for a player who is totally untested at this level. There are always some 'bargains' to be snapped up as the new season draws closer.... keep calm and carry on whining
We still finished fourth last season and were the lowest scorers among the top clubs... the only way is up, especially with a squad which in my view looks a lot stronger.

I could have made a small fortune selling rose tinted glasses on here this last few seasons. the truith as i see it is,, Hurst is a good defence coach, an that is it full stop, He is not a full team manager in any sence, He needs help from a striker coach or replaceing all together if we want to get out this league.. I have not renewed my season ticket as i said at the end of last season, and so far i think i am right not to.

Really ??? so the PAYING spectator means nothing then Maybe in the Premiershite where the gate money is a small percentage of the turnover that's the case. . But perhaps at this level we really could do with bums on seats.

| The wife was going away for a girly weekend. I jokingly remarked 'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football' 'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked She said 'Well you already know how to play football' |

Talk about taking a quote out of context. He said meant the only persons opinion that matters on whether someone is good enough is the Managers. Not that the fans mean nothing to the club. Does anyone really disagree with that? If you do then why have a manager, why not let the fans vote to pick the team (cue someone responding with "couldnt do much worse" or something similar).

Remember that friendlies mean nothing. This is the time to try different tactics and the results are obsolete. We've taken time in our signings so far which we can all agree will help/improve the team. Just have to wait a little longer.
