Did anyone go to the Lloyd Griffith comedy night at The Madhouse on Thursday? There were three Town players there Brown, Mackreth and an unknown which by the look of the guy above could well have been Hamish.

Had to laugh at Doig when I asked him who the player was, he said "I dont know, I am always the last to know.  I think he won a competition to train with the first team"  Everyone just laughed at him

Would imagine he's trying to be coy not to get people's hopes up. Wouldn't have kept him here for 2 weeks if they didn't see something

Hurst said he has been here for a couple of weeks and although nowhere near full fit he has not disgraced himself,

Paul also said he will be here for a while longer,

So he could see something in him that we mere mortals do not,

Remember what some were saying about Clay and look how he turned out.

Doig just said on Radio Humberside, "Watson fits in with all the lads, he has been doing well and trained today."

"Grimsby Town will have to look into International clearance, and could be issues, something to do with having a European visa."

Sounds promising anyway.

Not sure what the regs are with regards to a visa I know most players that are non eu need to be playing 80% matches and an international.   Once they get a visa and sign for a european club they need to make sure they have played a large chunk of games in order for his visa/contract to be renewed.  I could be wrong.

Just seen he supports Liverpool so I hope we don't sign him

Just a guess but as he's part of the commonwealth and his age he could probably come over on an initial short term working visa . Hence why shepherds bush is full of the tossers .

Updated his wiki page yesterday, still got his U-20 World Cup exploits to include.

One thing that wasn't mentioned, as well as his 18 goals in 39 appearances is the fact from April 2014 to August 2014, he scored another 19 goals in only 11 appearances for Wairarapa United winning the golden boot for that league.

Out of pure curiosity, how did Town make contact and agree the trial - who initiated the contact?

Is this another potential avenue for NZ players coming across, or is this just a one off by the player himself - where's the connection?

He has lost 11k and I would imagine once we have got him fully fit he would have lost another 5 or 6k,

He has impressed in training.

Moaning about a player's weight without really knowing how they are built is a bit pointless. When Jarman joined us, he probably only weighed about 12 stone but a lot of this was fat and his fighting weight was probably closer to 10 stone!

On the other hand, we wouldn't complain about signing someone massive like Akinfenwa, just as long as they can play.

His name is Hamish, his fathers name is Stewart, and his surname is typically Scottish also i.e. Watson.  Hopefully his Grandparents are British...

UK Ancestry Visa

If your Grandparent was born in the UK, you have the right to claim a UK Ancestry visa, which gives you the right to work in the UK for a maximum of five years. This means that you may address your career professionally and not just work part time like on the Working Holiday Visa.

To apply for an Ancestry Visa you need a few important documents. You will need your Parents and Grandparents Birth Certificate as well as your own Birth Certificate. You may also need a letter from a British recruitment company or from the company who have already employed you, confirming that you will be working while on your Ancestry Visa. You must also provide 3 months worth of NZ bank statements to prove you have sufficient funds in your bank account, as evidence that you can survive financially until you begin receiving income in the UK. You are not entitled to receive any sort of financial benefit support while in the UK.

Another bonus associated with the Ancestry Visa is that when your five year visa is approaching its end, you have the right to apply for an extension of your visa – called an ‘Indefinite Leave to Remain’ Certificate, and after that you can eventually apply for a British passport.

UK Youth Mobility Visa

If you wish to visit the UK for a period of more than 6 months, you will need to apply for a Youth Mobility Visa, (previously known as the Working Holiday Visa). The visa is based on points. You will earn more points if you meet the British High Commission’s criteria. The Visa is valid for two years and is available to New Zealanders aged from 18-30 years.

The whole meaning behind the visa is that you are going to the UK for a holiday but you will work to support yourself and not support your travels. You are not permitted to ‘climb the corporate ladder’ or seek a career out on your Visa. You may work part time during the two years of your visa or you may work full time for part of your visa.

You will need to supply 3 months worth of bank statements when applying for your visa. This is evidence that you are financially dependent and are able to afford to live abroad comfortably.
Just because you have been granted a Visa to work in the UK it does not mean that the British Customs staff cannot turn you away at the UK Border. It is wise not to pack your CV in your luggage, and it helps if you have 3 months of bank statements as back up.
