If we can bring in a quality attacking player till the end of the season then I'll be happy, no point in any short term loans in the forward positions, in my opinion of course, other than that I wouldn't be inclined to bring anyone else in.

I guess PH would like a big striker/front man in as cover for Lennie and Pittman. Makes sense to me.

Hurst has gone on record as saying he will only get a player in if he improves what we already have, otherwise there's no point.

Creative midfield player a must in my eyes, someone who can help break down the packed defences we see so regularly at town.

3 strikers isn't a lot.
Wasn't so long ago LJL and PIttman got injured in the same game.

I guess oldun may be right.
Funny cos when I heard we'd signed a 6"4' player I first assumed it was a big striker.

It's a difficult one, this.

When LJL, Pittman, Arnold, Neilson, Hannah and Mackreth are all fit, I don't feel we need anyone else. But I understand why we're looking - injuries, suspensions etc mean that we're probably going to need back-ups.

What we shouldn't do is sign a player on loan and squeeze out one of Pittman, Neilson or Arnold. Two of those three, with LJL up front, is the winning formula and we should give them a chance to play together where possible.

What we don't want is our permanent players going off the boil and losing confidence because a loan player gets in the team before them. Competition for places can be healthy, but not in every situation.

Hurst needs to judge the balance and mentality of his attacking players carefully - this is something he hasn't got right in the past.

A fair point - I remember Neilson said words to the same effect when Interviewed "On the bench".

Bit confused what you mean here tbh.
If we go 2 from 3 from your suggestions, one will be squeezed out anyway ?
Mackreth can also play up top in a 4-3-3 as well...
If you're simply saying we don't need any more widemen in a 4-3-3 then fair enough, I fully agree !

But while there's other formations to consider, just wonder if it's more a case of finding someone who can be a "plan B".
e.g. If we're struggling to break them down with passing we could throw on e.g. a Crouch type striker ?
Or maybe it doesn't need to be height, just someone who can offer something different ?
e.g. brutality, a good touch hold up player etc I'm simply guessing here...

Sounds like you're a 4-3-3 man ?
Generally I'm not overly wild on the idea of playing 4-3-3 at home, somehow 3 central midfielders feels too defensive.
Not saying it wouldn't work or sometimes still be the best option though.
Perhaps opposition teams (Dartford tomorrow ?) WILL pack the central midfield.

If that's the case, perhaps it's full circle back to whether Hurst is "worrying about the opposition" (often an unfair criticism IMO) or not.
I wonder if the uncomfortable truth is if fans really want to see more "possession" type football (after watching some home games this season, not sure I do !), then we may sometimes have to "match them up" at home !?
tbh I'm not sure but it feels a bit like swings and roundabouts.
What you lose in possession you may gain with width and vice versa...
