Seemed intent on passing through the middle, both teams packed the middle of the park so not suprised. Macreth should have started his runs and asking questions of their defenders a lot earlier. The players who were on the left (findus side second half) seemed to have only just met each other. Can't remember Jolley even getting a touch.

Talking of corners here is a fact,
Man City have had 200 corners this season, yes 200,
They have scored from 2 of them, yes only 2,
So its not just us who can not take a decent corner.

Braintree did their job well, parked the bus. We still managed to break through and score though UTM.
I don't go with all this "parked the bus nonsense" it seems to me to be just an excuse for us playing crap. When you consider they should have scored in the first couple of minutes and we never looked like scoring in the first 45 minutes was plain for everyone to see, in midfield Clay had a poor game and the wingers were just woeful and couldn't even get past the full backs, it had nothing to do with Braintree playing defensively.

Its actually pretty close to the normal figure for the amount of goals scored from corners. I havent got the figures to hand but I think it was one goal every 70 corners on average. Edit: I have just found the data, and basically it is that there is an average of 6 corners per game, with 20% of those finding a team mate, (Dropping at 'big' clubs such such as Barca, City, etc to around 10%). Overall there is a goal scored directly from a corner every 10 games roughly, so based on 6 corners per game youre talking 1 goal for every 60 corners. If you think about a team like City where they generally have smaller, nimble players its likely they will score less from corners as they dont have the same height and strength to challenge in the same way that Stoke used to when they scored all of their set piece goals.

Strange thing is, they scored 13 from them last season. At least we're consistent!

I assume those Man CIty stats for 'scoring from a corner' mean a direct effort on goal direct from the corner? What about if the ball bounces around in the area for a bit before being knocked in or if the ball is only half-cleared before being put back into the box leading to a goal?
It does tend to be pretty rare to see players scoring towering headers or direct volleys from corners but I think lots of goals come from pressure created by pinning the opposition defence back in their area. This is where we could do with much better delivery because most of our corners seem to be cleared extremely easily. If we put better corners in, we're more likely to be able to pick up half-cleared balls and build pressure by putting the ball back into the box.
We've been moaning about the standard of our corners for just about as long as I can remember. Wasn't Robertson one who was supposedly able to take a decent corner/set piece? Might be worth giving him a go. If we want to keep an extra defender back as cover, leave Toto there as he is pretty much no threat at corners and has the pace to cover at the back. He's only scored the one goal in his whole career and how many corners has he been up for in that time?
