I'm aware this is non-football but thought it would get a lot more prominence on here rather that the "Non Football" section.

I am taking part in the 10k Twilight Walk in York on Sunday 4th of October to help raise funds for The Brain Tumour Charity. I understand that the operation promotion fund will have taken a good chuck of peoples spare cash but if anyone still had a bit spare that they wanted to throw this way then I would be very, very grateful. I know a 10k walk is not the most challenging event that anyone has ever taken on, but for a "fat git" like me it will be. In fact it will probably be more of a challenge to walk 10k around York without diverting towards one of the scores of pubs there.

A lot of you will know my story but this is a quick "in a nutshell" version for those who don't.

In early 2008 I was diagnosed with a brain tumour. It was a Grade 1 benign meningioma which I am told is the best brain tumour to get if you are going to get one. However, I had several complications along the way and over the course of the next 3 and a half years had 7 operations and spent a total over 3 months in Hull Royal Infirmary. This has ultimately left me with part of my skull missing for the rest of my life. Fortunately the MRI scans that I have had since had all shown no re-occurrence of the tumour, which is obviously the main thing.

Since coming out of hospital I have helped to fundraise to support brain tumour research and with the help of family and friends, have raised almost £15,000 for those whose lives are affected by  a brain tumour far, far more than mine has been. Many of those are sadly no longer with us and that is why I will continue to raise money until some kind of cure can be found for this dreadful illness.

I am always aware of asking the same people for donations but as it is now 2 years since the last time I did any fundraising, I thought it was about time to go again. Anyone wishing to donate can click the link below, or for anyone that knows me personally, I will have some sponsor forms next week.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Chris, much appreciated mate. The event in itself is not until October so there's plenty of time. Just thought I'd get it up and posted now to give the maximum time to get any sponsorship in.

Sorry to hear that mate, hope things improve soon.

The moment when you are told that you have a brain tumour feels like someone's kicked you in the balls and smacked you round the head with a brick, but I'm one of the lucky ones as 7 years after initially being told, I'm still here. There are many, many more who are not so lucky.

Hopefully, with the advances in medicine, one day a cure will be found and every penny I can raise will go some way to helping.
