Bit of a shame really as Liverpool two years ago were the most exciting team we've had for years in the PL and Rodgers tries to get teams playing in the right way. Unfortunately, a disastrous transfer policy and an inability to sort a defence with more holes in it than a colander has done for him.

I think they might have somebody lined up already to have sacked him now. Draw at Everton not disastrous is it? Actually think it's a shame as was nice to see a modern, progressive British manager doing well a couple of years back with a team playing great football. Was unlucky to lose Sturridge after selling Suarez and don't see how he can be blamed for that. As for not replacing Suarez - how could he have? Seems that the dour football is as much to blame as results, especially the negativity of their performance at Old Trafford a few weeks back. I think he could be a decent England manager at some point in the future.

Theory is that they sacked him to get Klopp before Chelsea get rid of Jose.

Teams are getting rid now because of the International break. Will give them a couple of weeks to get sorted.

Klopp said he'd cut short his sabbatical for "the right job" in England last week. I'd be very surprised if it wasn't him.

Apparently he was given a target of 7 points from 9 in the last 3 games otherwise he was out the door.
5 points from those 3 games and he's gone.

A good coach I think but his downfall was not replacing Suarez with the money they got for him. Although I don't know how much that is down to him or whether it was some sort of transfer committee.

In the Premiership, transfer policy is hardly ever down to the manager. Not his fault if the Suarez money was badly spent.

He changed his style of play. When he first went there he had them playing like his Swansea side, a version of total football but they leaked goals and he reverted to a more traditional approach the following season with defenders defending and players staying in position. The signing of Suarez helped to change the style because the team played to him but it disguised team weaknesses even though they did well in the league. Losing Suarez left a big hole and Rodgers struggled to decide how to fill it because the rest of the squad were never good enough to cope. Sturridge was never going to be the answer with his injuries and Rodger's failure to sign a star and/or to blend a new team has left them weak. Whoever takes over will want to make big changes.

Spot on, having Saurez effectively extended his tenure anyway, without Suarez he would not have lasted anything like this long.

Lots of money went on Ancelotti this week I noticed (none of mine, don't bother with these markets).

It's got to be either Ancelotti or Klopp. I'm guessing the latter.

I don't doubt they've been in dicussions with one or both of them for a week or two.

Klopp would be the bigger gamble though. No experience of the weekly pressure on managers in the Prem, media criticism, demands for instant success at home and in Europe ............. and all this with a squad that needs a complete overhaul.

Klopp is well renowned for making good teams on a shoestring budget. Plus he's not exactly a powderpuff with the media. I also wouldn't say the Liverpool squad needs an overhaul, they have good players; it's the tactics they were lacking.

He has only done it with one club, Dortmund and he had time to do it because there were no massive expectations when he took the job. In a way it was like Rodgers at Swansea. Ideas don't always translate from club to club and Klopp only knows one club.

I suspect Klopp would find that time is a lot shorter at Liverpool to achieve success. The owners want the team back in the CL next season for instance. Also the British media is a lot more cutting that he's used to.

That's true. His favoured style would suit the Prem. But it is a highly drilled style of play and it needs players who are fit and amenable to that discipline. I wonder how many current Liverpool players fit that bill?  He would need to sign a new backroom and some of his favourites to show them how to do it and it could take a while for it to work. Would he get the time? How patient is the Kop and how patient are the owners? How would he adapt to a new club after all that time in one place?

Lawrensons comments strangely echo some of what i feel about Hurst.

Rodgers was often seen as arrogant at Liverpool.  Not the best place to be arrogant. The fans there know how things really are and have not taken to him.  

Hurst is not arrogant but he is very stubborn.  This also annoys the fans.

Klopp also did a good job at Mainz but I agree about the short-termism. Dortmund almost went bust a while back so their fans seem to be very understanding (even when they were struggling last season there was no fan pressure on him). I like Klopp, so ideally they'll give the job to someone else!

Also, just to be pedantic, Suarez was there when Rodgers got the job

Oh, please. Liverpool FC fans are as knowledgeable/deluded (delete as applicable!) as the fans of any other club. Rodgers almost won them the title but hasn't done well enough since then and he's certainly spent a heck of a lot of money. The fans wouldn't have minded one jot about his persona if he'd got them in the Champions League each year and won a trophy or two.

Lawrenson's article is strange because, whilst it is fair enough to point out that Rodgers had lost the confidence of the fans, the idea that sitting in silence and walking out early is the way fans should indicate unhappiness with the manager sort of ignores the fact that it is the opposite of what a fan should do. Are they there to support the team or show disapproval for the manager?

Also, Lawrenson's point saying that it was a mistake to let Gerrard leave sort of ignores the fact that he was a passenger for much of his last season with the club. He simply doesn't have the legs to play at that level any longer. Would it really have been good business to spend so much money on wages of somebody who would be not much more than an expensive figurehead? I don't think so.

odds shortening on klopp by the hour, whilst ancelotti's lengthen. did see an interesting facebook message from someone before the end of yesterday's game saying that rodgers was going to be sacked and that klopp had already signe da  3 year contract

I'm pretty sure the owners already have there man lined up, just waiting for an adequate time to announce..thought I heard yesterday on sky news that the owners do this quite frequently with there other ventures.

So Klopp gets the job for a mere 5 million a year for three years rising to 7 million if he wins the league or gets a Champs League qualification. That should keep him in Bratwurst.
