The posts saying we'll replace him easily, it's not quite that easy. It took us 6 years to find somebody of this caliber at it is.

We're going to need a big midfield rebuild and losing Nolan is a mega blow to that.

If this was known about for a while then fair play to Jon for continuing to give it his all throughout the playoffs. Wish him luck for the future as he will always be part of the team that got us back to the Football League.

On another note, is he at the right age for us to receive compensation if we did offer him a contract? I can't remember the age or what the exact rules were for this

I'd have been happy to see him stay, but let's not kid ourselves, we've not been doing that well with him in the team since he joined. It is only really since we played him in a midfield 3 that he began to influence games enough in the attacking third and we looked looser at the back when he played in a middle two. On the other hand, he did enough there to earn his move up the League and helped us win promotion so good luck to him.

I'm sort of hoping this will leave us with a space to sign a powerful and athletic midfielder who can play effectively either in a midfield 3 or a central 2. On the other hand, Venney and Clifton look to be decent footballers so I wonder if this give either of them to the opportunity to make the step up?

Disappointed but can't begrudge him it after the contribution he's made.

Hope he scores the goals that send scunny and franchise down next season

A blow? Yes. A mega blow? Nah. We're in a much better position to attract players than we were 12 months ago. Won't be easy , but bit early to be hanging any albatrosses round our neck I think.

Off topic but can Grim Rob have a word with Mr Hurst and get him to provide all the players IP addresses and only allow them to use old nokia phones?

We all got our knickers in a twist when Townsend, Magnay and Lenny left and look where we are now.

You've changed your tune since January!

I'm really sorry he's gone. Was a treat to watch a midfielder in the Conference so comfortable on the ball and so keen to get hold of it and influence play. Good offer for him to go to League 1 so can't blame him and wish him well.

Gutted Nolan's leaving.  More so than if we'd lost any other player in our squad I think. A real class player, great and computable in possession under pressure.

Surprised that there are so many who think he owed it to us to stay and should've showed some loyalty to us. That just isn't how football works. Players want to play at the highest possible level and money is a factor too in a short career.

Loyalty could work both ways too. If he should be loyal to us, should we be loyal to the squad that got us promoted and offer new deals to Monkhouse, JPP, Hoban etc?

Good luck Jon. I enjoyed watching you play. Hopefully Hurst can find a suitable replacement, something I don't doubt he's capable of.

I'm not sure but are we due any compensation due to him being under 24 and offering him a contract??
