Southwell starts upfront with cook.

I have seen nothing in southwell to see why he even makes the bench

Will have to see what he does today.

Hannah should be starting on the basis that at one point this season he looked like a confident, goal-scoring poacher. Southwell has never looked anything like that sort of player.
Posted by: RoboCod, March 30, 2013, 2:16pm; Reply: 5
Taylor to start? Scott said he looked sharp-ish but lacked fitness for 90 mins. Maybe we're going all out to get goals, that would settle us.
Posted by: ginnywings, March 30, 2013, 2:19pm; Reply: 6
Hmmm, another strange decision. Hope it works because nothing else has seemed to recently and this could just alienate the fans.

I think Southwell has a lot of potential, but is not ready to be thrown in at such a pivotal time.

Hope i'm wrong.

Agree, would have rather seen Hannah partner cook than Southwell. But, who knows! As long as we have 3 points at 5pm, I couldn't care if lord Lucan and Red rum were up front!

jeez dropped for  a winger.

drunk off we dont stick with him for a run of games.

Don't be daft. Lord Lucan is a natural centre half and Red Rum is too slow nowadays.

I hope he proves me wrong, but a half-fit Hearn or an out of form Hannah are still more likely to score a goal than him. It's a poor selection from the managers in my opinion.

Nah I think it's 442 like this:

                      McKeown
Wood/Hatton (???) Pearson Miller Thomas
         Devitt Naylor Thanoj Taylor
                 Cook Southwell

The managers watch the players in training every day and know a lot more about them than we do. If they have gone for Southwell to start there is a reason. No one can guarantee results ( though we desparately need a good one today ) but I trust their judgement, hard as this might be for you to believe Chrisblor, even more than yours. Let's wait and see what happens before we start saying they got it wrong.

It is very poor. One good chance that Taylor just didn't know what to do with. Southwell made some good runs in front of right midfielder (devitt and Taylor swapping ). Thanoj decent first half.

Commentators saying pretty much the same.  Saying that we are struggling to string any passes together and that the pitch is a poor playing surface today but are not using the pitch as an excuse.  JT and Buckley saying that Taylor is looking like he hasn't played for a while and that Devitt isn't up to much today.  Too much long ball instead of to feet.

Me and wembleydouble98 are agreed on the reason that we are giving away points and not playing to our previous best, is that whenever McKeown gets the ball either from a goal-kick, free-kick or otherwise, we always hear, and i quote "James Mckeown kicks it long" "Mckeown puts a long ball down the field" "James Mckeown puts a long ball down the middle" notice the common word is long, From what my dad has told me is whenever he used to either go or listen to the GTFC games it would be "davison rolls the ball to McDermott, down to black, inside to groves" back then we were playing possession football now we are HOOFING it down the pitch, and we are not getting it down and playing it, S&H are obviously telling them to HOOF it long and just clear it, when we were winning game after game, after game we were playing good football. Anyone else agree with me? UTM

Earlier in the season when Hatton was mainly playing at right-back we'd quite often roll the ball out to his, or Thomas's feet and play on from there. We don't do this now

So what if it's predictable? Doesn't make it wrong.

We haven't played well for months, many of us were saying that would bite us on the bottom but some people thought we could just grind out results for the rest of the season. We don't even look like scoring, let alone getting points. In the last four league games we have played Cambridge, Gateshead, Barrow and Nuneaton. We have managed one goal in that time and hardly even created chances. These teams are all well below average for our league and we're struggling against them. Imagine if we'd played some decent teams. Wrexham are a good team but we only managed two shots on target all game against them and as much as people want to try and make out we gave them a game, without our keeper we'd have been comfortably beaten.

Thank god our centre backs and keeper are good or God knows what our results would have been in the last two months.

The fact that we started with Southwell instead of Hannah was massive. The one on one that Taylor missed was huge.

Well we're on a terrible run of form, playing terribly, couldn't score in a brothel and don't look like scoring but there is no reason to be negative eh aldi?

Clean sheet, another point are the only positives from today.

Failing to score again and struggling to create chances are again the negatives.

Newport drew.

Disappointed as it feels our season is again fizzling away, hope not though and will continue to keep the faith (just).  Comeback Disley, Niven and Hearrn please.  Need to get back to playing on the ground instead of the long ball game.

Scott and Hurst have done this, totally inept tactically, dross loan signings, not one of them has shown anything.

Lewis is a disgrace of a footballer

LJL comes on and gets lots of the ball but in useless areas. Hannah comes on and hardly gets a touch. Southwell hardly plays at all then is given a full 90 minutes.
I hope Hearn cam come good, the forward line have lost their way and I don't see them recovering at all. Could be out of the top 5 come midweek.

another side that are down the bottom and we cant beat them, just another mark of how far we have fallen under Scott and Hurst.

The knives are out, and heading for S and H;s backs

S & H pick the team and are responsible for preparing the team, they must believe that the team they pick can go out and get the three points!

Just on way home now, will look forward to the managers response to that performance.

Doesn't mean they're right.

Change a winning team at your peril. The side has been changed and swapped around that often since Xmas it's almost laughable. Talk about throwing it away. Now a full 15 points off the top, incredible in such a short space of time. I thought in blind optimism we would win the next 3 games including today's. I can't see us in the play offs now. The run in is too tough compared to Forest Green. Hope I'm proved wrong.

BARROW A TEAM THAT HAS CONCEDED 28 GOALS MORE THAN THEY HAVE SCORED AND WE CAN'T SCRAPE A 1-0 WIN ABS SHOCKING !!!!

FOREST GREEN WAITING IN THE WINGS TO TAKE OUR PLAY OFF PLACE !!

WE HAVE TO LOOK AT THE TACTICS BEREFT OF IDEAS ETC..
ARGH WELL AT LEAST WE GET THE CHANCE TO WIN AT BRAINTREE ----NEXT SEASON. FRUSTRATED !! ??) ??) ??) ??) ??) ??) ??) ??) ??)

What do you mean????? are you saying we would have won if Hannah had played?
By the sounds of things Southwell was the best of a bad bunch

Keep it simple for the rest of the season. Cook and Hannah to start up front every game, if available. Hearn on bench to replace the first one to tire out. Marshall/Devitt on the wings, Taylor to replace the first one to tire.
Disley/Niven if/when available, Naylor close behind. An honest assessment of LJL, Wilson and if they bring enough to the table.
A possible replacement for Thomas who looks a shadow of himself. And endless arguments over Hatton/Wood and who has the least rubbish game.

Centre backs and keeper are ok though!

Who knows. I just think that Hannah has proved to one and all that he can score goals. Now he is not even being given a chance in the starting 11. Am not saying that is the only problem. Far from it in fact.

Southwell did well from the sound of it, asking 90 mins of him is mad though.

Don't think it matters who the striker is, the service to them is abysmal. A front three of Suarez, Messi and Ronaldo would struggle to score goals in our team.

Nah, those three players can make goals themselves. Messi would probably manage about 100 goals a season in this league!

See a previous post of mine. Southwell had a decent game. The one decent cross that came over was from the shop, header went wide.
There are idiots on here that don't see the whole picture. THERE IS NO CREATIVITY. The wingers are getting marked out of the game and they don't seem to have the ability now to take a player on. This all results in long ball from the back.

Shocking performance, shocking tactics and selection! Rapidly losing interest and money. That it from for fear of  saying the wrong thing.

Thanoj faded, southwell was our best player, naylor and wilson wanted to spend ages on the ball and got caught unawares, neither of them suits this level, Taylor is a serge makofo

Feels like we're on a hiding to nothing.

We need to hang on in the play offs but even then I think it'll just be for the experience. Not good enough to go up. Managers are being found out well and truly.

Devastated. Can't even be arsed to 'disect' it. Barrow were truly appalling and we didn't even trouble them.
