The new league will start with games played 2 weeks today (1st Feb). Fixtures will be posted next Saturday (25th Jan)

As indicated there will be 4 groups of 8, playing each other once on a league match basis with the top 4 in each group qualifying for the last 16 knockout stages.

Players in the current league have first refusal of entering the new league, from the 24 in the league the situation (as I can see) is below.

Players who wish to take part in the new league

THE VERA, HAGRID, GRIM ROB, REXFANNIES, IVANO SANDWICH, CMACKENZIE, GOBBY, GRIMSBY PETE, BIG CHRIS, RODLEY MARINER, GARY ELTON, PIZZZZA, BRAZIL NUT, SIGONE, LH, FISHOUTOFWATER, BOVINE, CRUSTY OLE PIE, PONNY FAN

Players who do not wish to take part in the new league

THEIMPERIALCORONER, MYDOGSTHOUGHTS

Players who have not said whether they wish to enter the new league or not

JUDAS JAY, CATCHOFTHEDAY, PAULGTFC

New players joining the league.

GINGER NUT, THE LAUGHING MARINER, FCUKTHESCUNTS, PRESTON MARINER, WOZOFGRIMSBY, UTFM, MIGHTY MARINER, TOMMY, JOE THE MARINER

So we have 19 current players and 9 new players. I will give the 3 current players who have not expressed their preference until the end of Monday to let me know if they wish to carry on or not.

If the 3 do wish to carry on then that leaves one free place open to the first person who wishes to enter.

Ok, you're in.

That'll make the 32, as long as the 3 players from the previous league wish to carry on.

Can we drop the points against column for the next competition? Points scored is enough as a tie breaker for this sort of game because you clearly can't stop people scoring against you unless you predict exactly the same scores as the opposition.

Must say I agree with this. Points scored is a much fairer tie-breaker than points difference as you clearly cannot do anything about points scored against you.

At the minute we're full Ben BUT I am still waiting to hear from Paulgtfc as to if he wishes to continue. I have PM'd him but if he doesn't respond in the next couple of days then you can take his place.

The Groups have been drawn at random with Group C "The Group of Death" containing the top 3 players from the league just finished.

I will post the first fixtures to predict on Saturday when I will give a quick resume of the rules. I will PM the new players to remind them that the league will be starting soon.

The league will run on a similar basis to the league just finished, but as suggested I will drop the points against column this time. The Top 4 in each group at the end of the 7 group games will go through to the last 16. If during the first 6 weeks there are 2 players on exactly the same points etc I will list in alphabetical order but for the final week there will be a tie-break if needed to determine final positions.

1 GRIMSBY PETE
2 IRISH MARINER

6 LH
7 PONNY FAN

Yes, no games to predict this week.

The new league will start with games to be played on 1st Feb. I will post the first set of games THIS Saturday evening (25th).

It was just to give me time to get the new league fixtures and groups sorted.

Right, a quick reminder of the format and the rules for new and old players alike.

This league will run as 4 groups of 8. You will play each other member of your group once (7 games) on a match basis with 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and no points for a win. The points total you score in the 6 games with be used as a "goals scored" total in case any two or more people are on the same points. During the first 6 games if two or more players are level on points and "goals scored", then alphabetical by name will be used to determine position but for the last week a tie break will be asked in case of this scenario after all group games have been played.

At the end of the 7 group games, the top 4 in each group will qualify for the "last 16" which will be played on a one-off knockout game basis.

Each week I will post 6 matches that you will need to predict. It is usually 1 from The Premiership, Championship, League One and League 2 and 2 from The Conference.
You need to predict the exact score of each game. If you get the score exactly correct then you score 3 points, if you get the result of the game correct (ie home, away or draw) but not the correct scoreline you score 1 point. You can also "nap" one game which is the game you are most confident of getting correct. Any points scored on this game will be doubled. Finally you must add up the total number of goals in the 6 games and include this at the end of your predictions. Get this total spot on and you score 2 bonus points with 1 bonus point awarded for 1 out either way.

You must post your predictions on the main thread and you MUST also PM me them too. This will stop any sneaky use of the edit button even though I'm sure that nobody would do that, this is for your piece of mind too. Any other questions just ask.

I see that both the Macclesfield v Barnet and Southport v Braintree games have already been postponed because of waterlogged pitches. If only these 2 game are off then I will score the weeks predicitions according. However if one or more further games are called off then this weeks predicition will become void and Week 1 will move to next week.

With only 3 games completed, as per the rules which I did post yonks ago, this week will be void. I did allow for the possibility of this when working out the number of weeks left.

Therefore Week 1 will now be next week. I will post the fixtures to predict later this evening.

Well with only one game postponed the season is underway. However it's a very flat start to the season with only Grim Rob scoring more than 3 points this week. A very low scoring week with 3 goalless draws in the 5 games that were played. Only Judas Jay failed to predict. 1st round of results and first group tables below. A usual, any queries let me know.

A higher scoring week this week, although Newcastle's win at Hull was a surprise to most. 3 non-predictors this week in Irish Mariner, Bovine and Wozofgrimsby and Ponny Fan was struck by a bout of amnesia by predicting TWICE again, but both predictions would have won him his match. Congratulations to The Laughing Mariner who scored a season high 12 points this week.

Yes it does after my poor showing last week of only 2 points Irish Mariner kept my 100% record in tact :B. If we guess the same results we could ensure we dont lose our unbeaten records  ;)

Now now, that's not really in the spirit of the competition is it! In previous competitions I have asked for the last set of group games to be sent to by PM only to stop this match-fixing. I was going to let it carry on as normal this time, but I may have to have a rethink now!  ;)

How is the next stage going to be decided ?
Instead of a draw why not best qualifier plays worst second best plays second worse and so on that way it will be in everyone's interest to gain as many points as poss.

That's how I will be doing the last 16.

1st in Group A will play 4th in Group B
2nd in Group A will play 3rd in Group B
etc etc.

Only Bovine failed to predict this week but actually picked up a point as he was up against Preston Mariner who was the only person to predict who scored nil.

Going into the final week of Group games a number of people have already qualified and a some have already been eliminated BUT I would like everyone to predict still next week as you will still have a say on who qualifies and who doesn't.

In Group A Fcukthescunts, Crusty Ole Pie and Grim Rob have already qualified and the other place will be taken by Irish Mariner or LH who play each other in the final week. Grimsby Pete, Sigone and Ponny Fan cannot now qualify.

In Group B PaulGTFC and Gary Elton have qualified but the other 2 places will be between Joe The Mariner, Brazil Nut, Tommy and Cmackenzie. Unable to qualify are Rex Fannies and Ginger Nut.

Group C is the closet group of all with all 8 still in with a chance of claiming a top 4 place.

Group D is fairly interesting too as only Fishoutofwater is certain to qualify. Preston Mariner, Wozofgrimsby and Pizzza cannot finish in the top 4 but the other 4 players can all claim one of the other 3 remaining places.

As I say though, whether you have already qualified or been eliminated, please predict as usual next week.

For the final group games I will give you a choice. If you want to post your predictions on the thread as usual then you can BUT if you want to, you can send them by PM only and I will then post them when I get the 2 players match predictions in or your opponent has posted their predictions on the thread. If you are sending me a PM ONLY, please mention this in your message.

Also this week there is a tie-break. This will only be used in the case of 2 teams finishing with identical records to differentiate final league tables. Closest to the answer will be deemed to have finished in the higher position.

Surely les Preston mariner should have received all 3 points cos at least he posted a non poster should receive a minus score to avoid this situation

If you get no points though you don't really deserve to win.  ;D

No predictors always score nil points but it's up to their opponents to at least score 1 to win.

Ok, we have our final 16 for the knockout stages. Well done to everyone as once again everyone predicted and there were some very close matches. Congratulations to the 16 qualifiers and I hope those who didn't qualify have enjoyed taking part.

2 groups saw changes in the Top 4 whilst 2 groups top 4's stayed the same. Congratulations to Crusty Ole Pie who despite not winning his group scored the highest points total of all entrants with 40.

I will post the last 16 later on but here are the final group game results and tables.

Ok, I have not had predictions from either Catch Of The Day or Bovine yet. (I have sent them both a reminder)

I will be online for the next hour so if I receive them by then I will post them. However, I will still accept their entries as long as I see that they have sent me a PM before kick-off time tomorrow but obviously the results of the ties they are involved in won't be known until I am back late on Sunday.

I reckon the 2 luckiest players in the last 16 were Grim Rob and Judas Jay.

Rob only got one match correct but it just happened to be his nap and then won on the tiebreak, and Jay scored only two points but was lucky that his opponent only scored one!

Well I hope Rob's used all his luck up already before our tie! Maybe he'll use his "beat the bookies" tricks to try and psyche us out this coming weekend  ;)

Anyway just pleased to be in with another shot at it

My predictions were more luck than judgement as Ivanosandwich's forecasts and mine were a pretty close run thing...I just had a gut feeling Woking would do Wrexham and that's what swayed it between us. Hard luck mate!

I had to check the attendance at Hartlepool though to see who would have been the closer if Woking & Wrexham had drawn and I think I would just have shaded it ... 3,328

Rob only got one match correct but it just happened to be his nap and then won on the tiebreak, and Jay scored only two points but was lucky that his opponent only scored one!

Oh sure, Les, rub it in!  ;)  I bottled it big time, no doubt about it.

Congrats and good luck to Judas Jay. And, of course, a huge THANKS to you Les for running the league again.

Good luck to all quarter-finalists. Looking at the predictions it seems to me like everyone thinks it's not going to be a feast of goals in any of the games this week, with not one team predicted to score more than 2!

No doubt it'll be a goalfest this week then!  ;D

It wasn't until well after the games finished that I realised I'd done quite so well...hard luck mate. Sure my win was more luck than judgment

I knew you'd put Palace to win at Cardiff so wasn't expecting the others to go my way

Anyway good to have got a tricky one out of the way today....your track record with the bookies made me feel as if I was the underdog going in to it, so pleased to progress to the semis!  :)

Not sure I want to be coming up against Judas though the week before Easter!  He'll probably have a nailed on win!  ;)

The thought did cross my mind Crusty as I'd like to pit my wits again but to be honest it's all about the 1st and 2nd places so we can leave this as is with us both being joint 3rd!  :P

However if the World Cup one comes about and I'm lucky enough (and I mean lucky!) to be in with a 3rd place shout then that would be ok...just mirrors the actual competition really with a final and a 3rd v 4th game too

Anyway all eyes on this one this weekend...good luck to both!

Is Judas the favourite this Easter weekend or is it going to be Chris to win...I don't think there's a nailed on certainty! ;)

You did struggle in the knockout stages Chris...I recall that you "hammered" me 2-1 and that needed a late Bury goal to change my correct score of 1-0 and 3 pts into just 1 point. Such thin margins between victory n defeat lol.

Congrats on ya overall win, a top effort. Also - as acknowledged elsewhere - big thanks to Les for taking the time to organise the competition. Very enjoyable taking part esp when we got to knock out stage!
