Following the success of The Fishy World Cup Sweepstake I have been asked if I will be running anything similar during the season.

The idea has been suggested of running a "Fishy Pontoon Buster" during the season. I'm sure some of you are aware of how this works. You pay £10 for a team (I will randomise a list of all Football League and Conference team and you choose a number which will be your team for the duration of this particular competition). You can have as many teams as you like but each team will cost £10.

The competition will be won by the first team (or teams) to score a total of 21 goals in weekend games (Friday-Monday). If your team plays twice in this period then only the first game counts and you must wait until all the weekend games have been played before a winner is declared. (ie - if your team is on 19 and scores 2 goals on the Saturday, you must wait until after any games played on the Sunday or Monday, incase another team also reaches 21). If you "bust" (go over 21 goals) then you are out of that particular competition. If for any reason your team doesn't play in this period you will score a default 2 goals. You should get a good 7-8 weeks entertainment from each competition.

Ideally I would like 15-20 entrants to make it worthwhile but the more the merrier and this would make for a bigger prize at the end of the competition.

The winner (or winners) would get (or share) a percentage of the pot (to be decided when all entries are in) and 25% of the entry fees would be donated to The Mariners Trust. In the very unlikely event that every team busts then 50% would go to The Mariners Trust with 50% being carried over into the pot for the next competition.

If you're interested in entering then please post on this thread and we'll see if we can get something up and running before the start of the season.

Possibly, although I think that all teams will have an equal chance of winning. It could be like the tortoise and the hare when one team sets off at a fast pace but will end up "busting" whilst the team that comes plodding along at a steady pace will get the exact total needed.

We'll put the suggestion out if you like but I reckon just having the one main prize (which will probably be spilt at least 2 ways) would be best.

You choose a team at random.

If in the first week your team wins 3-1 you score 3 points, if in the 2nd week your teams draws 2-2 you score 2 points so move up to 5 etc etc until one team scores EXACTLY 21 goals (points).

If though your team is on 19 and they win 3-0 then you move onto 22 and are "bust" and out of that particular competition.

The first team to score exactly 21 goals next season wins and it has to be after full games ie, if you have 21 goals in the 60th minute and your team scores another in the 89th minute then you are bust with 22 goals and are then out of the competition. Only weekend games count too, it's easier to keep track I guess

As Jay-Mariner said it's the cumulative score over a number of weeks.

Each week the number of goals your team scores is added up and the first team (or teams) to score EXACTLY 21 goals wins a share of the pot. Also, as Jay said it is only full-time results that count.

If you go over 21 goals then you are out of that particular competition.

One question. During a cup game, is it only 90 minutes played or does it included Extra Time, if played?

I was just about to clarify that. All results with be the 90 minute (plus any added time of course) score.

Right, we seem to have enough interest to get this up and running. We'll see how the first competition goes and if it's a success then I will try to run it throughout the season.

Here's how it will work. It will be £10 per team. This £10 will cover you for the whole of the one competition, until the pot is won. You can have as many teams as you like but each team will cost you £10.

The first competition with start the weekend of 15th-18th August (this is the 1st week of The Premiership season).

You can either send your entry money to me via Paypal to lesbrechin@hotmail.com or if you prefer to do a bank transfer let me know and I will PM you my bank details.

I have randomised a list of all 116 Football League and Conference teams. When you send your money please let me know 2 numbers between 1 and 116, and importantly, your Fishy user name. I will then let you know which team you have. The 2nd number will only be used if your first choice number has already been taken. If both your numbers have gone I will let you know by PM to choose a different one. I will only tell you which team you have got when I have received your payment and will list the teams and numbers on here as they are given out.

I will post a list of teams and scores each Monday evening/Tuesday morning. Don't forget that if your team does not play during Friday to Monday in any week you will score a default 2 goals.

Deadline for entry to the first competition will be 7pm on Thursday 14th August when I will let you all know how much is in the pot.

Any more questions, just ask.

You can sit anywhere you like.  ;)

As soon as I receive payment then a team will be allocated. You have until 14th August to send your money but don't leave it too late.

Don't forget that if you are sending money via Paypal choose the option of sending money to "family or friends" as this incurs no charge to either of us.

Once you have sent your £10 then that is it. You don't have to remember to make any further predictions. That's it for the length of the first competition. I will update the tables after each week so that you can see where you stand in the race to 21.

Just a reminder that when you send me your payment via paypal please choose the option to pay "family and friends" rather than "paying for goods".

If you send it as paying "family and friends" then there is no charge to either party but I have had a couple of payments which must have been sent as "paying for goods". I then only receive £9.46 as there is a charge of 54p.

I'm allocating teams as people enter for this one. I have copied a list of all 116 teams and randomised it. It'd be a bit of a long job to sort out 116 individual teams for a World Cup style draw. And it was my back room btw.  ;D

Well this is proving far more popular than I thought it would.

I was only expecting between 15-20 entrants in total and we already have 17 entrants with a month to go to the start.

I'm sure with have a lot more entries before the deadline and it's all going to make for a great prize fund and a nice donation to The Mariners Trust.

I'll probably include a couple of booby prizes too to keep thing interesting as Crusty Ole Pie suggested but I'll announce the prize fund and prizes after the deadline next month.

Let me know 2 numbers for your 1st and 2nd choice team please.

Looking at the teams that have already come out, none are what you would call really big teams (apart from Spurs maybe).

As for the 2 booby prizes, they will be as follows.

A prize for the lowest scoring team at the time the pot is won. (If more than one then the money will be split)

Plus

A prize for the first team that scores nil for 3 consecutive weeks. (Again, if more that one then the money will be split) If this prize is not won then the money will go into the prize pot for the next game.

I will announce the value of all the prizes once I know the final number of entries.

It certainly has. I was only expecting about 15-20 entrants in total and we're now well on the way to 30 with nearly 4 weeks to go.

Give them the mouse and they can make it 7 times out of 9. I don't mind.(bash)

Can't we just put this £290 on Town to lose tonight and then someone have a word with Hurst and explain it's in the interest of the club that we lose?

At 5/6 it would return £652.50....

Fcukthescunts - Colchester United - 7

Don't forget that because this has proved more popular than I thought, there will also be 2 consolation prizes. (Amounts to be decided after the deadline for entries)

1 will be for the team(s) with the lowest total at the time that the pot is won and the second will be for the first team(s) to score nil on three consecutive weekends.

Both these prizes will be for the same amount and if you win the second consolation prize you will not be able to win the lowest team score as well.

Deadline for entries is Thursday August 14th.

What about a score table ( like a league table ) after each weekend of matches.
This has probably already crossed your mind, although i should imagine it would be time consuming to work it out.
It would add interest watching how your competition was doing.

50 Entries, well done all.

I was only expecting 15-20 at the most.
Posted by: Les Brechin, August 15, 2014, 5:11pm; Reply: 168
Ok, the deadline has now gone so I'm closing this thread and will make a new one as a sticky at the top of the board.

50 entrants is amazing which give us £500 in the pot. As agreed I will donate 25% of this (£125) to The Mariners Trust which leaves us with £375 to play with.

This will be split as follows -

The first team to score 21 goals exactly will win £275

The lowest scoring team at the time the game is won will win £50

The first team to score nil on 3 consecutive weeks will also win £50.

Please note though that if you win the last prize you will not be eligible to win the lowest scoring team prize which will go to the next lowest scoring team if the team that gets 3 nils is also the lowest scoring at the end of the competition.

Obviously if there is more than one winner of any prize, then the money will be shared equally.

If by chance the 3 nils prize is not won, then it will go into the pot for the next game.

A new thread will be started shortly and I will update this one each week with the latest scores of each team.

Well done to all for such a great response and good luck to everyone.
