That's a weird one. When was it arranged? Seems a bit pointless and risky. Pointless because we don’t have any trialists or loan players to test out risky because we are already being stretched due to injuries and suspensions. Hopefully it will be a confidence boosting win with no injuries. Will be good for some of the younger lads to get some more game time as they may well be needed soon….

And maybe some game time for the fringe/comeback players. And also a chance for the shop to keep his edge

If they are going to do that then why didn't they just get the Lincs Cup final (that has to be played by October) done and dusted?

I'm guessing we and Lincoln always wanted to play the Lincs cup after the league match to avoid giving our "secrets" away.

Point taken but it's arguably a lot MORE risky asking Arnold to jump in at the deep end v Wellling AFTER injury though.
Even as a fan of "rotation", I'd have my doubts starting him v Welling so soon - think it's far better this way...

Rightly or wrongly if you don't change the team, it leaves others short of match fitness and practice.

Then if say LJL suddenly becomes unavailable, Hannah is expected to step in 100% match fit as miracle worker.
Not forgetting the very many others currently out of the team, who will also be needed in the future too.

Other risk for Hannah is, if he steps in v Welling and doesn't perform (through lack of match practice/fitness) he may be unfairly viewed by others as useless.
Personally I wonder if it'll be enough time anyway (and guess Hurst may try to wrap him in cotton wool tonight).
But like you say should surely help everyone a little bit (so hardly pointless at all)

Longer you leave unused players out, worse the problem gets!
What we wouldn't want (for example) is asking a player like Paul Walker to suddenly start a playoff 2nd leg after not playing all season.

Admit we've seen Neilson enter the fray all guns blazing with his goals at Gateshead.
But players still need regular time on the pitch to reach 100% match fitness.

Very good move by Hurst & the club IMO.

Do we have a team in the reserve league this year?
Posted by: 120797 (Guest), September 2, 2014, 6:50pm; Reply: 7
Don't think we have the reserves ?
That's another very good reason for it I suppose.
Posted by: Meza, September 2, 2014, 6:51pm; Reply: 8
We don't have a reserve team I think.  I know back when we did we use to be able to put players out of form, or coming back from an injury into the reserves.

so it makes sense to arrange a friendly due to not having a reserve team.

Regarding the lincs cup if its a fixture thing then most probably both teams need to cone to some form of agreement

Am gutted, I live just down the road from ferriby and had no idea tonight's match was on, would have liked to have gone. Great to see Arnold and Hannah on the scoresheet, hope he does not overplay them so they can be good for the welling game, they will be needed. Also am not surprised there are plenty of goals, ferriby have started the season quite well. UTM

Are Ferriby playing their strongest team or do they have fringe/reserve players in the team too. (If they have fringe/reserve players that is)

Yep...it was Arnold......I even missed Ferribys 2nd goal and didnt even realise they had taken the lead...so when Hannah did score...I thought we were winning    ;D

Did nt  expect us to win tonight, as it was mainly to give fringe players some game time, and if they played anywhere near there first team , we would struggle as they are a very good team from one league below us, and we are still at best nothing special in our league

Do you often go and watch North Ferriby so you can compare their ability to that of our own.

nope i dont go there, but they are second  at the moment and just missed out last year, so it dont take  a lot of brain power to work it out

Is the North Ferriby team full of 'Ull City youngsters/loannees? They are owned by one of the Allams, aren't they, so I'd have thought they would be a useful nursery club for the big boys. Competitive football at a pretty good standard.

Apart from the fact that Doig didn't play. Which was a shame, cos I think we missed his physical presence. They slightly bullied us but it was an enjoyable game.

Bit suprised Doigy didn't play tbh.
Maybe they're taking no risks at CB or it's just cos he's assistant.

No it doesn't really. Where have we finished for the last 2 seasons, oh the play offs, so we missed out in exactly the same stage they did. As for being nothing special, is that if we ignore the fact we have taken Gateshead and Alfreton to the cleaners and we had quite a few suspensions/injuries at the start of the season.
The only thing that doesn't take a lot of brain power to work out is that your hatred for somebody at the club, be it JF or PH or just the fact you are a miserable pessimist is blinding your view.
