County are part-time nowadays so therefore are not the nearest 'professional' ground to the Mersey. Our budding quizmaster should check his questions before posting.

Hmmmm, I'm sure most would consider professional football clubs to be full time only. Let's just say that it is a grey area, which does not a good quiz question make.

Dundee is hard to get for the the "2 clubs" question, unless you have a good memory.  Dundee were in the semi's in the early 60s I think. Glasgow Rangers also "qualified" about the same time.

Everton won the Cup Winners Cup as far as I can recall  (probably 1985 as they beat Watford to win the FA Cup in '84)

But even though that season they also won the old 1st division (which was the only way to get in to the European Cup back then, unless like Forest you were holders) they didn't get their rightful place in Europe again for this as this would have been for the 85-86 season which is when all English clubs were banned from Europe after the Heysel incident

This is all from memory but I think I'm right in what I've written

Named after another club in Accrington called Stanley Villa and their ground was in Stanley Street Accrington. The original club was Accrington and was one of the original members of the football league but they resigned after about 5 yrs, so Stanley Villa  added the Accrington name and became known as Accrington Stanley..  Or something like that.

According to my book you are close,

It's says when Accrington went bust a new Accrington was formed and funded by a certain Stanley Villa,

They took his name and became Accrington Stanley,

It might have been Accrington Villa if they chose his surname .

The guy you are talking about Pete is a Stanley Wotherington. After AS had gone into liquidation in1966 it was started up again in 1968 by this Stanley Wotherington. The Stanley name of the club goes much further back.
In 1888 the town had two clubs,Accrington and Stanley Villa, Accrington playing in the football league for five years before disbanding. It was at this time Stanley Villa took on the Town name and became Accrington Stanley and they dropped the Villa part.

Di Stefano and Puskas did play for more than one country. Puskas was, of course, part of the 1953 Hungarian team who gubbed England 6-3 at Wembley - the Magic Magyars as the press dubbed them. Puskas was known as the Galloping Major, and went to Real Madrid after the Communist uprising in Hungary in 1956, hence his turning out for Spain for a handful of games because his former international career was effectively finished because if he returned to Hungary he would not have been allowed to leave again.
