Damit i saw that on twitter posted by paul walker.

Another right back is this cover or will east favour midfield.  I must options galore.  Still one more striker i think as Monkhouse hasn't played striker for years.

Can't really remember Tait standing out as a player - anyone know if he any good? I'm quite surprised we're signing a right back to be honest. I'd have thought East would be first choice with Toto as back up!

Regular in a playoff winning side 2 years ago before being a regular in league 2. The new Sam Hatton!

Can either this bloke or East play left back?

Cambridge fan on Richard Tait:

"Solid and reliable full back. Does everything well without being spectacular, has a turn of pace and likes to get forward. Did a decent enough job for us last year but is lower half League Two quality - no better. Therefore, he's pretty much what a team like Grimsby need - good full back to get you promoted, one season of stability then say goodbye."

Sounds decent enough.

Ditto, a natural target man is what we need and Palmer is not the answer to that. For me we need a bully upfront to complement Bogle/ Pitman. Things will start to get clearer after Wednesday with players contracts running out.

Posted by: Mariner_09, June 29, 2015, 10:05pm; Reply: 30
I think there's a high chance that we'll sign Bird. Hurst is doing his usual, "well it's unlikely but there's a slim chance" we had that with Bogle, Toto and Mackreth. I wouldn't be surprised if he did or didn't sign.
Posted by: marinerjase, June 29, 2015, 10:06pm; Reply: 31
Palmer had a good loan period here but not one I'd hope we gave a contract to in all honesty. Serious lack of movement/effort at times, noticeably in the Play off first leg and final. LJL was busting a gut, closing people down, Palmer was walking. Not all bad of course, but more off days than good, hence the level he plays at. Sure he'll do alright wherever he goes..but we require better than alright.
Posted by: Mariner_09, June 29, 2015, 10:12pm; Reply: 32
Spot on, Jase. You'd expect at 6 ft 5 that'd he'd be a battering ram of a centre forward, someone who wins flick-ons and holds the ball up. I can't recall him once winning a header or bringing others into play.

Now I'm not saying he was useless, that first goal against Eastleigh was class but he was anonymous at Wembley.

He was a good finisher, but showed a lack of effort and often looked as if he was playing for himself after the Gateshead home game.

From what I've seen of Bogle on YouTube, Omar looks like a player!

Tait sounds a bit of a steady Eddie, good for the conference, but football league looks like it's been a step too far for him,
Cambridge fan said he was excellent with a hard worker in front of him but got exposed when they played with attacking wingers

He'll get a hard working winger in front of him in Mackreth, Forza, so I wouldn't worry to much about that.

In fairness, there's not a lot a full back can do when there's an overlap. That's the risk-reward approach of playing attacking wingers, you're gonna get caught on the break occasionally. He sounds very decent for this league. I hope he signs.

"Busy day" tomorrow according to Matt Dannatt. I'd guess at two joining us tomorrow - Tait and a striker. No sources or information just an inkling.

It's a refreshing change for us to have 95% of the squad we need before they've even reported back for pre-season. Even nicer that we're all pretty much unanimously agreed that the new additions are good signings.

8 goals in 13 appearances for us is a cracking return. He is still young too and learning all of the time.

Exactly. It never appeared to me that Hurst was too keen on Palmer, despite his return, because his work rate fell through the floor after his first few games. Remember him being dropped after Woking? I remember Doig going absolutely spare at him just before he was dragged off at Wembley for not chasing anything down.

Chris, 8 goals in 15 appearances speaks for itself.

Work his nuts off? Are you forgetting the performance he put in against Palmer at home. He was tireless and drove the team. I am not sure he was ever a slouch in any game he played.

Are we really debating the value of a player that scored 8 goals in 15 appearances?

Ollie was on loan , different  to signing on full contract  he might be wanting a 2 or 3  year deal . We don't know , PH knows who he wants and as he has previously said , we do have a strict pay structure  .  Very satisfied up to now with his signings , will be interesting to see who the next one or two will be .

This is what surprises me with the Marcus Marshall signing as I don't feel that he did especially towards the end of his time here and also considering the Lincoln fans comments on his time there.

Marcus Marshall will be just fine. First of all you need to consider that players won't always be firing on all cylinders all of the time. They do experience dips in form or consistency, even at the very top. That is why you have a full squad of players to choose from.

He has gone on record as saying that his time at Lincoln wasn't the best. That he didn't feel that the Lincoln style of play suited him and that it wasn't his best football experience. Sounds like he was holding back a bit and trying to put it as diplomatic as he could.

I'd be about as on the fence if Palmer signed as I am that Marshall has.

Yes Palmer had a good goal return but he did tend to look a bit lazy at times. That said though some of his goals did come out of nothing and at the time he signed it was exactly what we were after.

We will just have to trust PHs judgement.

I don't think another goalkeeper would be a good use of funds. If Callum cannot step in then there is usually no problem in getting a loan keeper.

As for Palmer, only our fans could moan about a player with such a good goalscoring record here.

I swear a lot of our fans would happily see a hard worker up top getting 5-10 a season. Palmer got his fair share of assists and a great goal return. Granted he had a short period of going off the boil but he's a non league footballer for crying out loud. If you think we're going to find somebody with his eye for goal and high work rate you're going to be looking for quite a long time.

I agree, we would be in the league if he'd just booted that clearance at Wembley for their goal as opposed to doing some girly pointless flick. I'm still trying to work out what he was doing.

A good finisher, but not a willing worker and considering he's a big lad, he's not a target man at all.

Probably not considering how LJL was viewed for long periods whilst here.

Find?  Very difficult.  Develop?  Much more likely.  Hurst developed LJL from a hard worker to someone who looked a more complete forward last season.

Palmer is only 23, 3 years younger than LJL.  If he was to sign, I see no reason why Hurst wouldn't improve him and his inconsistencies, especially around his effort.

I don't think Palmer will end up here though.  We've got the goalscorer in Bogle and the ability to stretch legs in Pittman.  I imagine Hurst will be looking now for the foil type of a striker.  After that any further strikers will be back-ups/alternatives.  Can't see us signing Palmer as one of those, not one when he'll naturally have a host of clubs interested.

And if Toto had cleared the ball properly rather than miskicking it out for a corner they wouldn't have scored that goal.

Sorry but we don't have the time to sign a player to develop, we need a ready made partner for Bogle. I don't think Pittman is fit enough for long enough to fulfil that role. We need another quality striker in and I'd be bitterly dissapointed if we didn't sign one.

Said it previously, but think Hurst sees Monkhouse as a Striker. Hes not got bags of pace so fits the bill of playing as a target man. Hes supposed to be an intelligent footballer whos link up play is his biggest asset. He sounds like the Gary Jones style forward we've needed for years. Especially along side Bogle's pace seems the ideally pairing.
Sure we'll still see another proven striker come in and potentially a full back.

Says who?  Hurst has shown previously he's of the mindset to develop players just as much as he wants to buy ready made players, if not more so.

This season is a step-up for Bogle, that's a development for him.

Exactly. It never appeared to me that Hurst was too keen on Palmer, despite his return, because his work rate fell through the floor after his first few games. Remember him being dropped after Woking? I remember Doig going absolutely spare at him just before he was dragged off at Wembley for not chasing anything down.

Its his attitude, its all about Ollie not a team player and its team players we need to keep the team spirit of last year going.

Every signing can't be sugar coated.

Not that there is a grain (ule) of truth in him being our next signing.

just to add on the palmer debate, I have it on very good authority that he is very poor when it comes to training bit lazy, unfit etc so maybe its a bit of a gamble getting him in again on a permanent deal, maybe hurst thinks he would become even more laid back and would not be willing to put the 100 percent in required on and off the pitch, I personally think we would be better pursuing somebody else. but like I say just my opinion
