Get an ad blocker add on for your browser. They're pretty good usually.

They are evidently looking into the issue according to  Twitter

I only ever bother visiting it when using a browser with adblock enabled. It's practically unusable without.

I am on windows 8.1 and on the bottom of the screen I can click on READ,

Once I have decided which story I want to read about I click onto READ,

Then the page just shows the story without any adds,

I complained to the telegraph ages ago,

BUT

They have done nothing to make their site readable.

Aren't these adverts pay-per-click? Can't imagine many people actually click on adverts they see on the internet anyway.

I know that I occasionally click that Muslim Dating one that appears on the fishy from time to time but thats about it.

I thought I was the only one who got the Muslim Dating ones. Used to get a lot of Russian brides ones too.

That's where the telegraph is making its money,

You just have to pass an ad and it pops up,

Then the telegraph says , " we have had 6 million clicks today."  (clap2)

The pop-up ads are annoying, but it's the unfolding and collapsing ads that really do my head in. You begin reading and without touching anything the text you were reading has been pushed off the screen.

You scroll down and - nope, there it goes again.

Finally when you begin reading, the ad has played out and collapses, pulling all your text up and off the page.

So up you scroll...

I only click them because I assume in doing so it supports the forum, no other reason  ;)

The videos on the GT site have started auto running again, I managed to stop them years ago, it does my head in.  The site is playing up keep getting BAD REQUEST on occasional links,

I appreciate it probably only succeeds with the advertising but surely too much becomes counter productive.

What browser are you using, is it the adblocker doing this for you?

I use adblocker, & don't get any popups on the Telegraph web page.

Just have to remember to check it now & again to make sure you are blocking everything.

TBH, since newspapers are becoming a redundant medium, they have to make their money somehow if all we do is read stories that are in the papers on line for free!

The Telegraph website is flipping atrocious. It's completely unusable and I NEVER read anything on there because of the stupid adverts that popup and slide and take over the whole screen. I understand you need to try and make some money back, but someone needs to take a look at the thing and realise that they're driving away people. There are plenty of ways to generate revenue through your website that aren't so intrusive. I also make a habit of not buying anything with such irritating advertising so it's really all just self defeating.

Now you are getting technical  :)

I am on internet explorer but when I have finished reading a micro soft message says,

"Did this read alright ,please report any problems."

I do not know if it has been there all the time or one of the grandkids put it on for us.

I use Adblock Plus which blocks them very good, but I go a step further and use Ghostery as well; Works on Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Safari.  Also IOS, Android and Firefox Android.

https://www.ghostery.com/en/our-solutions/ghostery-add-on/  You can set it so that things that are useful work, such as  videos, photo gallerys etc.

Ghostery will block all the bad ones, but you can set it to how you want manually if you wish, some of the Grimsby Telegraph pages only have 15 or so trackers that come up that will be blocked.

This is all the trackers Grimsby Telegraph website were trying to run in the background on one of their pages, 35 in total.

Blimey, didn't realise how many ads there was on it.

The Lincoln City site is just as bad.

Just to reiterate, adblocker blocks them all on my computer, & as an added bonus, it blocks the annoying ads on free spotify.

Since Northcliffe media has acquired the G.E.T. this once proud newspaper has declined to a rag, would not be surprised if it does not go the same way as the Echo and is only published weekly.

I've complained several times but they stopped answering me in the end. When I used to go on my iPad went crazy afterwards. I had to delete my history and delete all web site data stored for it to go back to normal. They couldn't be bothered to answer me so I can't be bothered to go on the site or buy the paper now.

In the online age less people buy papers, and they need to make the shortfall somehow.

That said, I don't get them as I have AdBlocker.

So we expect to see next headline on G.E.T. sportspage   Mariners Fans Think This Paper Not Fit For Chipwrapping.

I think not.
