With a great pre season behind us ,the best three centre backs and keeper in the league matched by the experience of Disley feeding Arnold who has started with the cracking form he finished the season with we seem to be looking full of confidence and ability throughout . Add in any one of Pitman Amand and Bogle all we need is the new Pouton . I rate Brown highly but given a consistent run of games does anyone think Clay could be the main man .

Clay has to start nearly every week for me. If Pittman can stay fit he'll score shed loads. Key player for me this year is Amond, looks a hell of a find.

I honestly believe we have 12 or 13 potential key players this year Jay...

Good feel about the place mate, first ever season ticket in the Upper as well even though going to miss a fair few games. This Town knows  ;)

I don't want to single out any key players. It is a team game and we have a squad full of key players.

Key for me this season is Paul Hurst!

Agree with the OP. I've always rated Clay and thought that given a run in the team he will flourish. Hoping to see him boss the midfield quite a lot this season.

It's great we are seeing such real quality though out the entire squad no doubt we will need every one at some point during the seasons campaign.

Clay should have played far more last year, I think PH knows that now too.

He's be first on my team sheet every week...

I'm not afraid to go for the obvious - Amond has scored 9 in 9 preseason games. We probably have the best back 5 in the league, a proven & improving midfield, but a goalscorer could make all the difference this year.

I personally would also like one additional midfield player of real quality in the creating of chances together with the additional striker. However, acknowledge that we have a pretty strong squad and the icing on the cake may come a little further down the line a l Lew Chatterley all those years ago.

Clay should have started the playoff games

He certainly looks the part now and seems to have beefed up since he came here, decent tackler, good passer and looks to have a decent engine, him and Diz make a good midfield two

For me, our Key player has always been dis, when he's on form, he's streaks above anyone else in what he does. think it was Palmer last year who said Dis was the best player at the club by a mile- best im not so sure, Most important i think

Same here after following Town for 35 years, the open day was really good and the club shop relieved me of some cash again UTM

Perhaps more important is trying to spot a weak link in any of the units which comprise the team. Personally, I don't see one yet. It's certainly difficult to imagine the rhythm of the side being too disrupted by the loss of any individual player since the squad has such collective flexibility. Even so, since Disley has become such a well-established 'first on the team sheet' player, it is difficult to imagine how the side would fare without his guiding influence. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

The pleasing thing for me going into the new season is that we seem to be in a position where, unlike previous years, we don't have a key man.  Across the team there's such quality and depth of options.

Last season we started the season with a glut of injuries so we chucked a team together and hoped for the best.  Once players had returned from suspension/injury it looked like Neilson and Pittman were the key men.  Neilson tailed off in form and Pittman got injured. Then Lenny stepped up with his goals and he became the main man.  Christmas came and we struggled until we got Palmer in, who took the mantle of the main man.  He tailed off with Disley and Arnold doing their bit into the play-off games.

The theme there is that we had one or maybe two players who we relied on at certain points of the season.  Once they fell out of form/got injured/teams cottoned on and double up against them, we struggled.

Lincoln at home last season is a classic example.  They knew Neilson was the one who would make us tick.  Put him out the game. We had nothing.

I'll be bloody amazed if any team can double up on five of our players at any time.   If they do the remaining five outfield players are laughing.
