1) The star man....the player who will play consistently well all season and win the player of the year award.

2) The unsung hero....the player who will always have a great game but rarely get the praise he deserves.

3) The surprise....the player who will exceed expectations this season and do better than expected.

For me

1) Padraig Amond
2) Richard Tait
3) Marcus Marshall

What about the scapegoat, there is always one player who gets blamed for every mistake. I've already heard people complaining about Monkhouse, although he seems to get about the pitch and passes the ball well. It's going to be an interesting season. UTM
And I agree with your three choices Les.

I thought about that but don't want to spoil all this positivity.  :)

The star man: Omar Bogle (30 goals to get us promoted).

The unsung hero: Diz (has been for 4 years now, crops up in important areas, a real class act IMO)

The surprise: Toto (eliminates all errors from his game and becomes a fantastic defender)

The scapegoat: They'll find one somewhere, my guess is probably Diz, just because he gets on with his business quietly and goes unnoticed.

1) Craig Clay - I think he'll be absolutely massive this season for us and wouldn't be surprised if he gets a big move next summer.

2) Jack Mackreth - Got better as last season went on and looks to have improved again over pre-season.  I expect us to stretch teams this season and he could be a key man, especially chipping in with goals.

3) Danny East - Not sure why on this one, just a hunch.  I don't think many expect him to start as first choice but I've a feeling he'll start at left-back and then keep Gregor out when he's fit.  His ability at set-pieces will be vital too.

4) Scapegoat - None. This has been the most positive pre-season I can remember as a Town fan.

1) The star man....the player who will play consistently well all season and win the player of the year award.

PADRAIG AMOND: A massive upgrade on Ross Hannah. From what I have seen, he is a more rounded footballer with many attributes. He can bring others into play, can knock it round the corner and despite a less than impressive goalscoring record in higher divisions I think he will score bags of goals.

2) The unsung hero....the player who will always have a great game but rarely get the praise he deserves.

CRAIG CLAY: Absolutely vital for a Grimsby side which which will be looking to attack more than last seasons counter style. Craig reads the game very well for a 23 year old and provides a sheild for the defence. He breaks up the play and has a more varied range of passing than perhaps he is given credit for. Also allows Disley to break forward and hopefully contribute with over a dozen goals from midfield.

3) The surprise....the player who will exceed expectations this season and do better than expected.

MARCUS MARSHALL: When he played for us some three seasons ago now, he looked direct, pacy although it's fair to say he often ran into blind alleys. He hasn't set the world alight at Luton or Lincoln either, some would question why he is good enough for us if Lincoln didn't retain him. It's fair to say the jury is out.

In pre season, he has looked very sharp. Surprisingly, he seems to have added better decision making to his game. I wonder if three seasons after his last appearance for the mighty stripes, he has begun to 'see the picture'. If his decision making and awareness has improved he will be a formidible winger and will push Macreth on the right or Monkhouse / Arnold on the left.
