100k is nothing if you say it quick ....... Now go try and earn it ..... It's a lot of money

Are you suggesting something underhand?

Or just more thinly veiled conspiracy theory type digs to undermine the club (and in this instance the trust - who IMO have done an amazing job pre season with this campaign)

Do we need to see where the cash has been spent? I assume the trust will have visibility of this given presence on the board and that they will know the money has been invested in playing budget as promised.

I understand people are frustrated but threads like this are really unnecessary....

I'm sure these questions wouldn't be getting asked if we were top of the table.

I donated twice.I didn't expect a breakdown of where the money was spent nor do I want one. I trust that the club will use it in the way in which it was intended to be used and I don't feel that the poor performance of the club at the minute justifies a witch hunt!

I wasn't asking or even care where the money is .... I was just wondering why people gave 100k of their hard earned

When we donated money to the crowdfunder project, we knew it wouldn't guarantee us promotion. Everyone also knew you were donating money to a budget that would be spent by Paul Hurst.

Without necessarily agreeing with the OP, surely having raised and contributed, we have some kind of expectation to know where our cash has gone??

The day before the Kidderminster game did anyone doubt that we didn't have the squad to win the title? Easy to say you didn't now I suppose - especially if you're reappearing on the board after a few months away.

Usually after such an active day on this board after a bad result we tend to go on a run where everyone forgets how excrement we've been anyway. It'll be forgotten soon.

Oh dear, i feared this might happen. Nothing is guaranteed gents. We gave the money because we love the club and i don't really care where it went.

So why did you hand over money to a failing business, this thread is an embarrassment and an insult to a lot of town fans.

A football club is different to an ordinary business in many ways. You're very right, it would have been madness to throw 100K at a failing business such as 'Woolworths' when it was in its decline. But then people don't travel 100's of miles in their replica Woolworths' employee top to show their love to the business. You just can't compare the two. People love their football club, they don't love their local supermarket.

Also, you talk about it as if one person gave 100K. They didn't. People gave what they could afford to give, and I'm pretty certain, whatever the outcome this season, come the preseason optimism and peoples love for the 'Grimsby Town Business' many of them would be willing to do it again next summer.

Even if we got promoted we'd still be just as skint. Nobody gave to try and see any return on their money other than boost the chances of being promoted.

I was asking a valid question , pretty soon there won't be a balanced view on this site . Insults only tell me that you can't answer the question .

Here's your answer then: We all, collectively, handed over £100K because we're sick and tired of being in this division and so decided to help in the only way we can directly which is increasing the budget. Bigger budgets usually mean a better chance at any level of football. Nobody thought it would guarantee us promotion and I don't think anyone, or at least not many people, is demanding their money back, they gave it because of the feel good factor at the time and because we love this club.

Will it work? Well at the minute it's looking quite unlikely as it's looking like PH has tricked us all into thinking he has developed as a manager and is making the same stubborn errors that he has been doing his entire tenure. There's still a long way to go but we've already given ourselves a mountain to climb and with our easy start that is unforgivable. We should have been riding the crest of a wave but as it is we've left the anchor out.

There are obviously some things wrong at the minute and I don't mind people having an opinion that is critical. Everyone can see it's not right and we should be doing much better with the squad at our disposal. What I can't stand though, is someone leaving the board for months and then only coming back once things start going badly and seemingly reveling in the fact we're struggling. How sad an individual do you have to be to do that?

I bought lots of goodies and donated 3 cash sums over £350 in total,

For one reason only because I love this club,

Its not a business,  its my life,

I do not expect a run down on how the money is spent,

BUT

I do hope it helps us get promoted.

Actually I don't think you were asking a valid question, you were simply trying to stir controversy because you're pi55ed off.  I asked a loosely related question a couple of weeks back, the direction I was coming from was whether there were plans to spend the money, given that since the cheque was handed over we haven't spent anything.  I got shot down by the usual board elders who simply defend everything that the club and JF do, right or wrong.  However, the question remains unanswered, where is the money or what was it spent on?  Also was it used as an addition to the original budget or has it been used so that one individual has been able to put less of his own money in?  Perfectly straight forward conspiracy free questions if you ask me, some of us are interested and some aren't.  Just for the record, I contributed to what I thought and still think was a worthwhile cause.  I contribute to other collections and charities in the belief that in some small way my contribution will help, it's quite simply how under-funded entities can over perform.  However, if I think for one moment that my own personal generosity is being abused then I'll never give again.

Yes of course I do, they're received at the bank by a giant over-sized Teller.  However to satisfy you're attention to detail........we don't appear to have spent any money since the fundraiser closed and the money released by crowdfunder.

I have developed a serious back complaint after having carried an oversized cheque in my wallet for the past 11 months.

Don't really have a strong view on this but..... if PH doesn't deliver it is inevitable that some fans are going to feel incredibly let down after the huge effort made. Operation Promotion set us apart from so many other clubs and showed the depth of devotion that people have for Grimsby Town - the most notable thing for me is it proved how selfless people from this part of the world can be.

But I'm also not sure how much £100k is really worth at this level (that's a genuine question by the way - I can see it would be life changing for some of the smaller clubs down here) - it is clearly a huge amount of money to have raised but how much would it be to Eastleigh or FRG in terms of their operating costs? The tipping point will be if anyone at the club suggests that it wasn't such a huge amount of money in reality in terms of the challenge in hand and the bigger picture...... light the blue touch paper at that point.

Oh yeah - still think PH is the way forward - be careful for who you wish for.

Just because I haven't posted on here in a while doesn't make my post valid ........ I'm just amazed that the fans raised 100k and some of those same fans are calling for change

I don't know for definite but I'm guessing the money was loaned to the club by whoever and was re-couped when the fund finished. I'm sure I remember reading either Hurst or Fenty said that the money had been spoken for before the deadline.

Mine was a benign loan,

I only want it back if Fenty asks for his. ;D
