Just has to be his first question post match....but i bet it wont be.

I wonder if Warrington is better at penalties ? Could be a tactical master stroke....if needed.

Was just about to say that, it couldn't have come at a worse time (not that there's a good time to dislocate your shoulder, but you know what I mean).

Other option might be to play Arnold up front and bring Mackreth in on the right if need be.
Really bad luck.
I've dislocated my shoulder playing football and if you make a mess of it, it f***ing hurts. Get some gas and air and get it back in, and then its a few weeks of pain and physio to get ROM back. Alternatively, could maybe be a broken arm. Really hope it's neither of these. Really feel for JP.

Sounded solid enough there without really clearly threatening..other than the Clay chance Tondeur keeps repeating.....sounds as though Arnold/ Tait  are not offering any attacking dimension down the right.

Half time

We are on top just shrews having better chances.

One sided ref Gowling got cleaned out after he had already cleared the ball talking to for the shrews player gowling clipped their player who was on the break and got a yellow which was fair as it was a bookable foul.

Midfield is a little lacking today and both strikers keep drifting wide meaning we've not got anyone in the middle up front.

Monkhouses lack of pace is showing but Shrews not taking advantage.

Tait and Townsend class above Townsend for going forward and Tait for his defending.

Like I said earlier looks like Pittman has dislocated his shoulder the way he was signalling and holding himself

Pretty harsh considering we've won our last four in the league and were unlucky against a team two divisions higher than us.

No voluntary substitutions....no real chances created....possession resulted in nothing......have to look at the bench really, unbalanced with no wingers at all and sounded as though Arnold did very little again leaving us very one sided.....Townsend must have been the most mentioned player in commentary, all our play through him.

We were never going to win the cup so apart from sympathies for the travelling supporters glad we dont have the distraction now.

JT said we had 2 golden chances - the Clay one in the first half and the Arnold header in the second. Its not about winning the cup, its about creating a feel good factor and getting extra revenue.

And Shrewsbury are TWO divisions higher.

But I agree at least we can concentrate on the league.

This

And for once I think no subs in the 90 was the right call

We had another 30 mins ahead of us to inject something extra with two sub options to their one

Had it gone to extra time I think we'd have been the more likely to come out on top

Hey ho. We move on and we give our all to winning the league

Possesssion and creating chances take you only so far.  The key is to putting these chances away.  This was out failing in the first league game - and some games since.

Absolutely.

But they were hindered by the lack of options off the bench, its a squad game, did we force their keeper into a save ? Were Amond/Pitman/Bogle fed any decent service? Didnt sound like it despite us having the lions share. 9 corners...how many resulted in a clear attempt at goal?
Having 7 subs and not having a natural wide option AGAIN! is ridiculous.  Townsend was our main winger tonight which indicates he was doing two players work...Hursts inactivity with the subs IMO has hindered our chances.

Agree with the width bit TBH and as a player I like McKreth but is his final ball that good anyway?

Regardless...Arnold has had two games with no pressure or competition...if you know you arent gonna get subbed is that inspiration to play your socks off?
Makreth looked very positive on Saturday, attack minded and stretched their full back, that in turn allows the fullback to play higher up in support, puts pressure on the opposition.
It just gives us an option, if one winger got injured then we would have had to have square pegs....with 7 subs option or 6 if you insist on a keeper that shouldnt happen.

Great effort from the lads - no negative's at all tonight apart from JPP's injury (wish him well) - money earned from the run and now all we have to concentrate on is getting promoted! I'll put myself forward to play against Solihull and I've got rheumatoid arthritis UTM!

On way home but if the impression given on the radio was that the front players didn't get any service then I don't recocnise it from the game I watched. Bogle saw plenty of the ball in forward areas. He had a couple of decent efforts into the side netting and over the top and was brought down inside the box from his best chance. Amond headed wide from a really good chance and was brought down when past his defender. At least two of the corners resulted in chances that shouldve been put away. Amonds wide effort and Gowlings header that defied the laws of physics to miss. It doesnt have to be the forwards. Only a great save prevented Arnold getting a goal. You may well be right about the wide option. Monkhouse was disappointing going forward but at times it seemed that the two of them had actually swapped positions and he was sound enough defensively although they presented such a weak attacking threat that there was never any real risk. It wasn't because of a perceived laçk of service more a failure to take just one of the many chances created.

I do think they are some very good points and pose some obvious questions.
He's going to be pushed into the use of Marshall or Mackreth now we've lost JPP.

And that's the very impression I got from listening.

Sorry if this has already been mention but apparently on Sky sports we could still go through, Shrewsbury had a player who was still suspended apparently, anyone else heard this ??

Fair enough. TBH I didnt think Humberside could get it that wrong.
Anyone who saw Marshall on Saturday will have understood Hurst's reticence. Mackreth might've been worth a punt though.

It looks like they are getting mixed up with the first game. Ian Black was suspended for that but he was sent off for 2 yellow cards so only a one match ban.

He got his 5th yellow on Saturday so they may be thinking of that. But the cut off is 30 November, so it's irrelevant.

Just for clarity mate, the way you described it is exactly the same as how I perceived and imagined it from listening to the commentary.

Agree about Marshall. Does seem odd that Mackreth couldn't get a look in though as you say. Maybe he's ill?

There was also some confusion about the amount of booking he'd picked up but Shrewsbury have just tweeted this.

Shrewsbury Town FC ‏@shrewsweb 3m3 minutes ago

IAN BLACK: To clear up, now into period where reaching 5 bookings doesn't mean a suspension, when player reaches 10 will mean 2 game ban

[quote=32]No voluntary substitutions....no real chances created....possession resulted in nothing......have to look at the bench really, unbalanced with no wingers at all and sounded as though Arnold did very little again leaving us very one sided.....Townsend must have been the most mentioned player in commentary, all our play through him.

We were never going to win the cup so apart from sympathies for the travelling supporters glad we dont have the distraction now.

[What utter bullocks from the comfort of an armchair. If you had been there you would have a more credible view. Town were very good tonight.

Just back.  What a cup upset that should have been....

Town the better team for the 90 minutes
Certainly wanted it more... Shrews v. Lack lustre and lethargic
Amond was everywhere, bogle and him worked well, but their defence / back four were pretty solid ...partic Junior Brown who also caused trouble pushing up on the left.
Should have brought Mackreth on... New legs, more width, a change...
Macca was too good... I was right behind their first shot that came in... A belter going a yard wide.  Macca dived, saved it and kept it in play... Cleared to the edge of the box and belted home.
A travesty, we woz robbed.
But so many positives... let's concentrate on the league now!

Utter b)ll)cks?  The just back thread offers some agreement about attacking options, did we make a voluntary substituition ? Did we score ? Did we have any wingers on the bench? While not there i did watch the second half via periscope. The players did themselves and the club proud to match and even outplay higher opposition it just frustrates me that IMO the manager could have given them a hand by freshening it up. In the words of those who were there "Monkhouse was out on his feet for the final 15 mins" ..when the manager post match says that players were making recovery runs even though they had run themselves out. ...then why not sub them?!?

Were you the guy who approached the police to report a robbery? Made me laugh.
I'm pretty sure that although he was on the pitch beforehand Mackreth wasn't on the bench...

Maybe not!  But definitely on the pitch beforehand as my mate is a Macc Town fan and he spotted him before I did.
