Not sure if there is a thread for this guys, but if there is feel free to merge it.. Transfers for players from other teams and potentially ones we are linked with, I'll start the ball rolling.

Stefan Payne signed for Barnsley from Dover on a 2/3 year deal

Johnny Smith of Wrexham has signed for Bristol City.

I seem to remember reading Cook said he wants league football next season, so Hannah would be his replacement.

I would but Hursty won`t, always was a great target man when fit and no slouch with the ball at his feet.

Even if Hurst changed his mind I doubt if even league football would tempt Cook back here anyway. Carlisle or Hartlepool would suit him fine.

When Jacksons name was mentioned on here I recalled that a friend had told me that Hurst had stated recently that Jackson was one player who had really impressed him, primarily due to his pace. He mentioned Deverdics too but said he was likely to sign for Hartlepool.

must be something about Braintree captains - Alan Massey was their skipper of 14-15 and did similar, he actually moved down a divison to play under devonshire at maidenhead.

Maybe so but he's clearly a bit of a douche.

He said: “I’ve known the gaffer [Paul Cox] for a long time and I had my heart set on coming here last summer, but it didn’t materialise and then this season I thought it would never happen due to my [cruciate] injury." These were his comments on joining Mansfield so we paid him a nice wage to sit on his bottom for two years and Fenty personally paid for some of his treatment and this was how he repaid the club's loyalty to him. He did the same this season to Lincoln, trying to engineer a move to Barrow to be with his mate Paul Cox and disrupting their squad and season (so I suppose we have that to thank him for).

Like I said, he's clearly a good player and should have had a FL career but his lack of loyalty to anybody makes him a bit of a twit. Can't help but feel this is his come-uppance and he'll regret being such a nob when he has to get a normal job when he retires.

Antoni Sarcevic was mentioned on twitter the other day and Matt Dannatt commented the PH has been an admirer in the past. Has just been released by Fleetwood, when i've seen them on TV on the odd occassion in the past couple of years he's been one of their key players, 24 so a good age still and a midfielder? Could be one on the radar possibly..
Posted by: Mariner_09, May 26, 2016, 10:04pm; Reply: 56
I'm sure Hursty has made contact with all his targets, suspect Sarcevic will get league 1 club. In the play off final against Burton a couple of years ago he looked way too good for this league.

P.s. Really enjoyed putting "this league" in reference to league 2.

Interesting call, been mentioned favourably by both morecambe and blackpool fans. Chester fans loved him, but feeling seems to be that he can be a bit in and out plus league 1 may have been a step too far. He's generally been based in the north west rather than this side of the pennines

Absolutely none of us last summer said: "Padraig Amond - go get him Hurst!" or "That John Nolan is a quality midfielder, we should be signing him."

Ok, we signed Nolan in January, but you know what I mean.

It's alright us identifying the players we think will do well for Town, but when it comes down to it, Hurst will have his own targets. He'll see this transfer lark differently from us.

He'll know what he can get out of them, and how they'll fit in.

That's not to say we don't know what we're talking about, but we only see the players in action. Hurst will have more behind-the-scenes knowledge to make a better call on their temperament, personality and things like that.

He's signed a few flops in his time, but he's also unearthed some gems. There will be more rough with smooth, no doubt!

Posted by: Mariner_09, May 27, 2016, 3:28pm; Reply: 61
If you thought Nolan didn't protect the back 4 well then Sarcevic would drive us crackers I think he's more of a Number 10 than central midfielder.
Posted by: acko338, May 27, 2016, 4:24pm; Reply: 62
Different for Hurst this time around - he has a Football League status club to offer to his targets, with potential to play regualrly at this level and be seen higher up - chances for players to start to bring in fees if they succeed here, and the knock on is that good players drive the club higher up the table, and gain pubicity, and hopefully bigger and better sponsorship deals........ maybe even another investor as well??

A selling club is not all bad, as it has to mean that better players are on the books, and attract other better players who want to play for a promotion seeking club.

I could also see perhaps one or two full season loans in place, as feeder positions from Championship level club reserves or upconing youth players like we did with Conor Townsend, who should also be thanked for his contribution during this great promotion season.

Need to be looking at commercial outlets this year - preparation for any transfer to a new stadium if given a go ahead?

Can we get Disley (or all of the team in colours) on camera eating some of Young's seafood products, with the League Trophy in the background??

National commercial times  - good food , good team etc ??

Agreed Acko Hurst as a much better chance of getting his targets now we are back in the league. Feeling more optimistic about our future than I have done for many a year.
Posted by: ginnywings, May 27, 2016, 4:48pm; Reply: 64
Something else to consider is that Hurst will be getting a reputation as a manager that players respect and have good things to say about; word will get around. It will also be noted that his teams have been at the top end of leagues he has managed in and our fans have been praised by most of the players that have been here. If we also get good news on a new stadium, all this puts us in a good light for attracting players. One of the reasons JPP gave for signing for Harrogate is that he heard nothing but good things about the club.

We are a league club.

A damn good job we didn't take that attitude when we looked at John Cockerill amongst others.

.big loss for newport as bodin departs. rather shows the lack of quality in the scottish prem especially if you consider motherwell may well be in for tait

I would be surprised if Tait, Amond or Arnold left. Toto is the one that worries me and if I could pick one of the 4, I'd pick Toto.

Also, you can forget about Billy Knott - he's signed for Gillingham. two notes of interest - Newport have lost another of their lynch pins.Might be a difficult season for them coming up, and Pompey make another good signing in Carl Baker. They must be paying plenty of money

Those too, but Fry seemed to be an integral part of the Cowell defence, I think some expected the entire Braintree defence to re-assemble at Lincoln.
All bad news for Braintree though, they're losing everyone.

And Lincoln fans think they'll get promoted with the majority of that team signed up and some that they are trying to move on so they can get their own players.  They also think Southwell lincoln deal is close...pfft yeah right lol,  I think Lincoln will make the playoffs, but then drop back to mid table haha.

Nice one Dale. Always liked him and wish we could have given him a bit longer but we were not in a position to do so at the time. Good luck to him.

I hope he does well for them (along as he scores less then bogle!). Glad he chose them over Lincoln.

Newport County AFC have announced the signing of former Cardiff City striker Jon Parkin on a one-year deal.

The 34-year-old, known as 'The Beast', joins the Exiles ahead of the start of the upcoming season and will add to manager Warren Feeney’s attacking options, as the club continues to assess the injury picked up by Lenell John-Lewis in the pre-season fixture against Caldicot Town.
