I had wondered if he’d bring in JMD for his technique, delivery standards and goal threat, but reckon he wants him ‘up his sleeve’.

He hadn't done anything at all.
Poor defending ,far too easy & no pressure to prevent the cross.

Well 2 pens not given including one could easily if been a red.
Holohan not following his man for their goal, just let him run straight past him and he got the assist.
Clifton and Sousa need to do better tracking and stuckung to their full backs

He only needs one decent cross and our smallest defender to not challenge him.

The same happened in the home game, you would have thought Hurst would have a plan to deal with him.

Got to be said, I'm at the game but everything is happening a long way away so I didn't realise we'd had penalty shouts! What were the incidents? No useful replays being shown on the big screen.

Posted by: Kris2, June 5, 2022, 3:59pm; Reply: 35
Was expecting a more cagey affair in the final and it has been against a very good Solihull side who can move the ball around very quickly. Really should have scored when we had the chance, Clifton should have definitely buried his but maybe it was a bit awkward in the end. At least one of those penalty appeals should have been given, the one on McAtee was way late and could have been a red but this ref seems determined to not give us anything. It does annoy you when we got penalties against us for much less.

We've come from behind in our last two games so not giving up on the team, bit unlucky to go in behind at half time but should have done better defending their goal, we've let them past us too easily for that. Big boy didn't look much of a threat until he scored and was looking a bit tired after 20 minutes but we gave him far too much room for that.

Clifton’s was an absolute sitter and he’s made a horrible mess of it. The defending for their goal in terms of marking Hadlin and the effort not put in to stop the cross is really poor, but we should’ve had 2 pens.

At the game. Why the ref didn't book their player for fouling Crocombe I'll never know. Can't see that much at the other end. Stadium is awful, difficult to get the atmosphere going.  How do you stop someone that's just taller than everyone else?

Being 6'9 is an advantage in any sport, that's why Man City have looked at him simply because being a giant is am advantage over any other player.

Like playing FIFA against somebody using hacks at times. The ball zooms to the feet of Solihull players and they look like they are using speed hacks against our team, always faster and seem to move in fast forward when challenging for the ball. Very stressful game to watch.

Dug in deep going extra time for the third game in a row, the team can be very proud of themselves for the immense amount of effort and grit they have shown. Managed to contain their biggest threats for the most part in Dallas and Sbarra and managed to take the opportunities when they came. Fantastic performance in the playoffs, went the distance 3 times and came out on top.

Absolutely brilliant, Except the BBC website is showing it as Solihull 2 Town 1. Well done to Paul Hurst who has been a giant over the last three games and the season as a whole.  A credit to to himself and the club. Well done to the new owners, Jason and Andrew. I have to mention Jason because of his articles in the Guardian explaining the culture they were bringing to the club. I wrote several times on here saying that the decline of the club was down to the then owner not appreciating the culture and tradition of this great club. I got insulted by some but I know there is sense in this argument. Jason's article yesterday summed this up. A fantastic achievment to get back at the first time of asking in a league that is now much better than before.  This time we are going to build on this promotion because we have the right people in charge.
Congratulations to all the players. I am very proud to be a Mariner tonight.

Excellent playoff series by Town.  Two away games then the big one in London, and extra time in all 3 of them.  We must have one of the fittest teams in the League.  We deserve to be back in League 2 and hopefully we can move higher. UTM!!

P.S.  I will now buy FIFA again this year, as we will be in the game this time around after getting promoted.  Yes, I'm a 76 year old gamer and just love it.

Fun fact: It'll be the last FIFA game you'll ever buy, since EA have fell out with FIFA since they charge ridiculous amounts of money for the licence and they're renaming the games after to EA Sports FC.

I think this is where our experience came into play. Their better players didn't produce the goods and they had some very good chances to score and good situations which they didn't capitalise on.

A lot of pressure on them and in each of the three games, the underdog won.
Posted by: Nutsy, June 5, 2022, 8:39pm; Reply: 88
This result shows the team spirit. Big kudos to Mani, without whom we wouldn’t have got to the final - he could have thrown his toys out like we have seen with some strikers who are jsut used off the bench.

Everyone plays a part and knows there role, and the team benefits because of this - that it is a Paul Hurst side.

If we can keep the majority of this squad with s few tweaks and upgrades we could use the momentum - similar to 2016, but without losing keys players and Hurst!

Solihull looked a lot weaker once that big lad had to be subbed off. Their balls over the top were dangerous for us up until that point.
Posted by: TownSNAFU5, June 6, 2022, 1:55pm; Reply: 91
Yes, their tall striker was a threat.  He was also faster than our defenders sometimes allowed for.

We also benefited from Notts County having 2 their high-scoring strikers going off injured.
