Struggling to see a positive result with that lineup, can't understand for the life of me what he sees in Ubikwu  :(

He's not nearly as good as Obikwu.

From that I see Clifton at Left Wing Back. Maybe trying him there in place of Hume whos not suspended yet, before an important game at the weekend. Personally would have had Harry in the middle in place of Green with Denver in. Obikwu with chance to impress after Wilsons misses at the weekend though still think he gets brushed off the ball too easily.

C'mon boys a win tonight coupled with a defeat for the Veggies and they cant catch us. Then its either Colchester or Sutton for the drop with them! Hopefully Sutton. Hate to see proper football clubs fall down into non-league

And Wilson is better up front
But fingers crossed we get something tonight

Bit concerned that starting 11 has Barrow away all over it. They knew we had no threat at all down either wing on Good Friday and took advantage by crowding defenders into their own penalty area knowing we had nobody who could beat a man, and then mugged us off twice on the counter.

Can't help feeling a little disappointed with the lineup. I'm not his biggest fan and  I know he missed a couple of decent chances but at least he got himself into those positions which I am not convinced Obikwu will. He gets out muscled far too easily for me. Would have like Vernam in the starting lineup as well but hey what do I know.

Why is Saturday's game more important than today? If anything, I'd say we've got a better chance of getting points from tonight's game.

Harry in the middle ? What to be completely over run like every time he plays in the middle , look we all love harry but ffs he’s not good enough to be in the middle of the park get him at wing back either side or bin him off bias eyes aren’t no good for anyone

Can’t risk vernam playing two games in a short turnaround, plus there will be more defending to do tonight than on Saturday. Harry will be solid as wing back and Hume will have to work his way back in. Obikwu or Wilson? Much of a muchness for me.

Do you? I certainly don’t, he’s stood in an offside position a second or two before the flick on but the defender then clearly steps back before the flick, playing him on. Lino’s a couple of seconds out.

If you freeze it just as the flick-on is made, Obikwu is offside. You have to pause immediately after the start of that highlight to see it.

We’re 89th in the pyramid & that game shows you why. Players tried hard but we have too little quality, too many development players in the squad.

Good night for Sutton.

I can’t remember us winning a header in that half.
it’s painful to see us break or push out , we just seem unable to create anything

Let’s face it, we are poor. They had nothing to play for, we had everything and was lacklustre. You can blame officials but at the end of the day we are crap.
Massive changes needed whatever happens.
The best supporters in the league but that counts for nothing.

Hmmmmm…could’ve done with a point from that. Dunno if Crewe winning makes it easier or worse for us on Saturday? On the other hand Harrogate still something to play for (just).

Ugh. Fúck this season,

To add to the flipping loud mouth yorkie sat behind JT was really getting on my mammaries, there’s something I despise about Harrogate.

Those who bugged Hume up may reflect on their haste.

For all the criticism of Clifton tonite Hume struggled defensively more in the 25 mins he was on the pitch than clifton did in his 70. It was a tricky wide player they were up against. To be fair Clifton was poor in his passing and control but he was more dogged defensively than Hume was able to be.

2nd half performance was just not good enough, no quality in their play and not sure if some of towns players were really up for it tonight compared to Saturday’s performance, really disappointed with town tonight.

Harrogate really not been amazing beyond scoring a well placed goal. Should have been there for the taking as before they scored they looked every bit a mid-table team with nothing to play for and uninterested. Bad to get a goal disallowed but we should be creating more chances and taking the ones we do get, Holohan should have done way better with his chance. Rose and Thompson the standouts again, can't fault their efforts. Holohan was poor, Clifton looked to be struggling in that position and Hume wasn't much better when he came on, both look very frustrated players. None of the subs really did anything to change the game, not been a fan of Vernam since he rejoined us, he just doesn't look the same player after so many injury issues.

Should have taken at least a point from this regardless and Harrogate have little going for them beyond one or two good players and some big bruisers in defence as usual for Harrogate teams. I'm sure their fans will be happy returning to their house made of turnips.

Even though we lost it was a good night and put us in a stronger position , in terms of other results for us

FGR now have to win every game to go above us assuming we lose every game

Colchester won't be ahead of us before the game next Tuesday .

And Sutton have to effectively win 2 out of 3 to have any chance even if we only got 1 more point .

We are a group of grafters but seems to struggle beyond that - Harrogate seem a decent team tbf and you would hope we can get to a level similiar next season at least  and hopefully quite a bit more as they are probably as 'mid table' as they come ; it's a benchmark I guess .

Awful second half particularly the last 25 mins. Thompson and Tharme were our best  but even then they were average. Even Danny Rose had a shocker in the second half.

Bright spot is that both Colchester and FGR lost, so still 5 points clear and the games are running out. We are actually slightly better off despite losing.

Lots of calls to replace much of the squad in close season. And it’s clear we need a refresh, but I can’t imagine they’ll be queueing up to join a team that (hopefully) finished 89th. Hurst struggled when we finished in the top half.

I hope Artell is persuasive.

Saturday:

Crawley - Colchester
Crewe - Town
Harrogate - Sutton
Wrexham - FGR

Only Harrogate really without much to play for. As long as Wrexham and Crawley win it shouldn’t matter how we do. Worry if we lose next Tuesday!

No he didn't. The vast majority of his recruitment was very early in pre-season suggesting that those players were first choice or not far off being first choice. He just recruited extremely badly.

I do wonder what sort of people do not wish all fans a safe journey home from away games. To me they are not pathetic but morons who do not deserve to call themselves supporters.

Just seems like Deja-vu, when we are in L2 we seem to spend the majority of our time frantically searching for other teams results as we struggle to maintain EFL status. The pain of supporting town seems never ending and the ups are now so infrequent it’s hard to keep dragging yourself along to watch. Think I will be giving a season ticket a miss next year and be selective of when I attend. Amazing in that I think I have missed five home games this season and we’ve won four of them, says a lot about the quality of my support.

I’m more concerned about Sutton’s last game at MK Dons if the franchise can only make the play offs.

The earliest I can see this being resolved is when we play Swindon.

Ubikwu goal definitely offside. Holohan second half sitter miss was the draw. We need more composure on ball and just not bloody give the ball away every other move with urine poor passing. If we survive - and given the chance - pre next season will make - or break DA!

Got to be odds on that Wrexham will beat Fgr on Saturday so they will be out of the picture as far as we are concerned. So we need to stay ahead of Sutton.

Tough game for us on Saturday so we need Harrogate to do the business against Sutton otherwise we will still be looking over our shoulder. We might need a point at Colchester and to beat Swindon to be really sure of safety baring a huge turnaround in goal diff.

No. He got most of his top choices and got them in early. It’s just as usual, Hurst had a horrible transfer window in the FL.

All those times we drew? All those chances we failed to put away? Confidence knackered us. Then Conteh left as soon as the wheels fell off. I’m sticking by it. A decent partner for Rose would have seen a much better season.

Our defence is ok-ish, it’s the shambles of a midfield that Hurst left us with that’s the problem. We do have players that offer a threat from out wide (Vernam, Gnahoua and Eisa) but they’re either injured or couldn’t give afuck. Central midfield is just woeful, Thompson excepted.

What has cost us is the ammount of missed clear chances to score. Every player will miss a sitter  but we seem to miss nearly every one of them. Chances that sunday league players put away with ease... The annoying thing is that no matter how bad this team has performed it has created clear cut chances that have been missed more than once in a game. Probably cost us 15 / 20 points over the season. We need to keep Rose and get him a decent partner to stand a chance next season

I don't like to single out young players for criticism but Obikwu was ineffectual last night and subbing him at half time would not have been unfair to him. He struggled to win challenges on the ground or in the air, trap the ball, hold it up or bring other players in to the game. I struggle to see why he's preferred to Wilson.

Tondeur and Dis agreed on the radio with JT mentioning how he was struggling to get into the game from about 15 minutes on.

The line up last night was disappointing all round, but we could have done something about it and used the subs much earlier to give them a chance.

Coventry seem to rate Obikwu and we have done our bit to introduce him to the EFL but it would be better for all concerned if he doesn't feature again unless we are mathematically safe as he is offering nothing to the team.

What can the manager and the coaching staff see that we can't,  and why when we are in a precarious position would you play an untried youngster over say Wilson?

Obikwu's future career doesn't hinge on whether we play him whether he deserves to or not.
Posted by: BobbyCummingsTackle, April 10, 2024, 9:03am; Reply: 183
It's possible that a condition of the loan was that he starts or gets game time and DA needs to keep Coventry sweet for future deals - but I don't know that's a fact.

I can't believe we would let our hands be tied like that, but a poor judgement if remotely true.

I am utterly cheesed off with being perennial strugglers and being at the mercy of other clubs being slightly worse, and higher placed clubs using us as a doormat.

Agree about Obikwu, at times it felt like he didn't know what he was doing out there, and I'm amazed at how someone so tall can't win more headers. I would have preferred Wilson to start who is stronger in holding the ball up.

I thought defensively we did ok last night, thought Smith did alright again and interesting that Harry came in a LWB over Hume - who didn't have the best time when he came, or Vernam.

Midfield wise, Gav was getting stuck in but with minimal effect and it took me a while to realise Andrews was even playing. At times it felt like Mullarkey was playing more in midfield and trying to create chances more than the actual midfield itself.

On a fan note, credit to everyone who came along. Right at the end of the match a bloke stood behind me, think his name was Rick became unwell and we had to get the medics. He seemed ok after a while but if he is on here or anyone knows him then please send him best wishes.

We also haven't scored nearly as many goals from other areas of the pitch which hasn't helped and some of the existing players from last season not having a great season.

I still think we could do with another attacking midfielder who scores from midfield (Gav being the only one that resembles an attacking midfielder, i know, they don't grow on trees.

I can't believe we are still starting games with not one, but two young and inexperienced loan players in the heart of the team. It was three when Cartwright was in the side, and I think it is extremely poor planning by the club.

I don't want to unduly criticise these young lads, because they all show some promise and may well turn out to have good careers in the game, but it's asking for trouble in a struggling side to have them playing regularly when we are in such a precarious position. It's also heaping a lot of pressure on them to perform to the required standard when they are clearly not yet ready.

Wilson wasn't great on Saturday, and missed three glorious chances, but at least he had the nous and the strength to get himself in those positions in the first place. Better strikers than him have had such off days, when the chances come and go without finding the net. Obikwu doesn't look accomplished enough to lead the line to me, though he did score a goal that was chalked off, but the rest of his game was found wanting and I think he should have been hooked sooner, if not left on the bench completely.

God knows what the other senior pro's think sat on the bench watching him. We'd have been better off with Vernam in a No10 role. At least he can beat a man.
