Town Back to Winning Ways

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 27/02/2013

TOWN made hard work of putting the home match with Ebbsfleet to bed. Coasting 2-0 at half time the Mariners switched off in the second half and allowed the visitors to pull a goal back. A nervy 15 minutes ensued, ended when Disley put the match beyond reach with a trademark strike.

Grimsby made three changes from the side which drew at Dartford. The Mariners selected a brand new strike force of Cook and Hannah (which proved so successful earlier in the season) and Colbeck was rested on the wing in favour of Hull City wide man Jamie Devitt.

Town scored right at the start of the game when Marshall poked in a Cook cross from point blank range. Town dominated proceedings and it was no surprise when Cook shrugged off his marker and bundled in a second goal.

Town were coasting at half tie and the only criticism was that they weren't more than two goals up.

Grimsby should have had more but they struck the bar and Cook blasted the rebound over then the 'keeper made a good save to deny Disley.

Town got a warning when Ebbsfleet were allowed to get the ball into Enver-Marum in a strong position but he blasted IT wide

Grimsby should have been three up but the profligate Cook then decided to shoot straight at the keeper when Hannah was stood next to him unmarked from a breakaway.

Ebbsfleet then silenced Blundell Park when Enver-Marum turned smartly in the box to give himself room and shot low and hard past McKeown

However the last laugh was with Town as Disley then blasted in a shot from 30 yards to ensure the points were all the Mariners.

Grimsby dominated the game and were deserved winners although critics will point to the missed chances which allowed the away side to claw a foothold in the game.

Late goals for Wrexham, Mansfield and Kidderminster ensured the top three remained the same, however Luton and Forest Green both lost.
