Grimsby Back to Winning Ways

GRIMSBY recorded their first win since the victory over Forest Green at the start of March to boost their chances of making the play-offs. Forest Green and Macclesfield only drew as well which was an unexpected bonus for the Mariners.

Ross Hannah scored his first goal since re-signing for Grimsby, which was a further bonus for Town, before Sam Hatton blasted in a free kick. Stockport pulled a goal back through Kenyon, although he looked to have used his hand in the build-up. Town hung on through an extended game, which was lengthened by an incident in injury time when Stockport's Halls was sent off.

Sam Hatton, Joe Colbeck, Ross Hannah and Marcus Marshall all were rotated into the side, while Craig Disley returned from injury for Town who began the game brightly.

Hannah missed a golden headed opportunity from a Marshall cross on 16 mins.

Stockport then came into the game and had a Cullen goal disallowed for offside. Then McKeown made a great save to deny Cullen and Stockport later hit the post.

The half ended 0-0. Both sides had had their spells but the home side created by far the better chances.

At the start of the second half Hannah scored his first goal of the year with a fantastic strike from 18 yards.

Not long after Sam Hatton blasted in a 25 yard free kick to put Town 2-0 up. The scoreline flattered Town a bit but Grimsby have seen plenty of teams do the same to them in recent weeks.

The two goal lead saw the weight of the world lifted off Town and Cook should have made it 3-0 from a poor backpass.

However Stockport got back into the game through Kenyon, who looked to have handled it in the build up, but the ref waved aside Town's protests.

Stockport pressed for an equaliser and Town had to survive a lot of pressure in the last few minutes. In injury time Stockport's Halls was sent off after an incident in the goal mouth.

But Grimsby held one through 8 minutes of injury time! They now face Macclesfield away in a massive game on Wednesday night.
