Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Amond: 4 goals
Amond: 4 goals

Seventh Heaven

Date: 14/10/2015

GRIMSBY thrashed Halifax 7-0 thanks to a record haul from Paul Hurst's restored partnership of Amond and Bogle. Bogle found the net twice, but Amond took the plaudits with four goals on his return to the side. Craig Clay also contributed with a strike from midfield.

Left back Conor Townsend came straight into the side as a replacement for Robertson, and Ben Tomlinson was dropped up front in favour of Amond. Midfielder Scott Brown made his first appearance of the season of the bench.

Town raced into a 10 minute lead when Amond chased a long ball and pulled into back to Monkhouse who crossed for a tap-in for Bogle. That was Monkhouse's last telling action as he left the field with a shoulder injury midway though the first half and Marshall came on in his place.

Town went two up on the half hour when a quick break led to a cross by Arnold which picked out Bogle at the far post. Bogle's header hit the post but Amond reacted immediately to send the rebound into the net.

Bogle added a third just before half time, shrugging off his marker and firing a low ball into the net. With Town running rings around the Halifax defence the two strikers combined again to add a fourth goal in front of the visiting supporters before the break, with Amond finding the target this time.

Town didn't slow down after the break and Bogle was again the provider for the fifth, stroking the ball into the path of Clay for the first at the Pontoon end.

Bogle never got the chance for a third as Tomlinson replaced hum but Amond got his hat trick when he received a long ball from the Town defence, wrong-footed his marker with a quick turn, and raced to slot it past the 'keeper.

Amond fourth and Town's seventh came when Halifax gave away a throw in and the ball was played through to the Town striker who made no mistake with a delicate chip over the 'keeper for the pick of the night's goals.

Grimsby could have equalled their 8-0 record victory but Tait hit the post in a late attack.

It was an emphatic win over a weak Halifax side but it will be a brave decision by Paul Hurst to drop either of his two leading scorers again. The Mariners have another game next against a side near the bottom when they make the long trip to Torquay on Saturday.
