Newcastle Keeper Loan?

By: Stephen Bateman
Date: 23/11/2000

The Fishy is able to exclusively reveal today that Newcastle United goalkeeper Stephen Grindlay has recently begun training with the Mariners. It is understood that Grindlay is at Blundell Park with a view to a possible loan deal.

Niall MacKenzie, editor of the independent Newcastle United site www.nufc.com told the Fishcake that a colleague had spoken to Grindlay and was "99% sure" that a loan deal between the two clubs was being ironed out.

A Newcastle United spokesman later confirmed that Grindley was indeed training with the Mariners but no loan deal has been agreed as yet.

Lennie Lawrence is currently looking to cover the goalkeeping position after Danny Coyne's recent call-up to the Wales squad. Grindlay, a young Scotsman, is currently the Magpies regular Under-19 goalkeeper.
