Aidan Davison is Set To Leave Bradford City

By: Dan Humphrey
Date: 31/05/2001

BRADFORD CITY boss Jim Jefferies has announced a cull of his goalkeepers, with ex-Mariners stopper Aidan Davison and former Sheffield Wednesday 'keeper Matt Clarke set to leave the club.

Former first choice Clarke is almost certain to leave Valley Parade for newly promoted Bolton Wanderers, where he may be joined by another GTFC old boy Nicky Southall, who is leaving Gillingham on July 1st.

But Jefferies told Teamtalk that: "Davison's agent has been in touch and he says that he wants to play regular first-team football next season. I would also like to sign a younger keeper."

Davison's desire for action may be linked to his recent omissions from the Northern Ireland squad, or just the realisation that veteran Gary Walsh is Jefferies' preferred numero uno.

Although speculation has linked Mariners' number one Danny Coyne with Bolton, Aston Villa and Cardiff, amongst others, Lennie Lawrence has indicated that he wants to offer Coyne a contract extension, so any move for Davison seems unlikely, especially in view of the presence of young goalies Steve Croudson and Ronald Ermes in the 2001-2002 squad.

Meanwhile, Davison would be expected to sign for another first division club, so could be lining up against the Mariners next season.
