Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish next season?

Lennie Lines up ex-United Left Winger

By: Paul Holmes
Date: 23/08/2001

MARINERS boss Lennie Lawrence has stepped up his search for a left winger and has given a month's trial to former Manchester United youth Michael Boulding. Boulding spent last season with Mansfield Town after a spell playing non-league football.

Described as pacy and eager Boulding could be the solution to the problem down the left side for Town. Although Stuart Campbell currently plays on that flank the Grimsby boss has made no secret of his ambition to play right footed Campbell down the right and allow Alan Pouton to operate in a central role where his aggression would be utilised to the full.

Lawrence will decide after Friday's training session whether to include Boulding in the 16 for the Preston game. Lawrence currently has a selection headache with only David Beharall the only change from the team that beat Lincoln. Beharall is expected to replace Ben Chapman, with Chapman being relegated to the bench if he's fit.

Michael Jeffrey and Ronald Ermes will also be on the bench, that leaves Simon Ford, Robbie Brussher and David Morgan contesting with Boulding for the remaining two places, Simon Ford would find himself unlucky to not make the bench after an excellent debut mid-week. Bradley Allen is a 50/50 chance to be fit for the game.
