Question of the Week

New Ground Inquiry to Kick Off

By: Mike Worden
Date: 05/11/2001

THE inquiry into the proposals to build a new football ground in Grimsby takes a step forward this week, when the Inspector who has been asked to carry out the inquiry will hold a pre-inquiry meeting.

The meeting, on Tuesday 6th Nov (at Cleethorpes Town Hall), will set the scene for the inquiry itself which will begin in February and last for a number of weeks. The Inspector will take the opportunity to explain the procedure that he will follow at the inquiry and outline the timetable for submission of evidence from the Council and objectors. Any special arrangements for any particular objections will also be outlined. A draft programme for the Inquiry, including the dates and duration of the session on the stadium, might also be available.

All of the objectors of the Local Plan will have been invited to the meeting. As with the Inquiry itself, the meeting is open to the public as observers. If you are thinking of going though, you will be asked to provide your name and be warned, it could be very ‘dry’. The Inspector will not allow the discussion of any arguments for or against any proposal but will stick purely to administrative matters.

The holding of the pre-inquiry meeting shows that the real consideration of the stadium proposal is not far away. Although the deadline for official submissions has closed, there is still time to join in with the campaign being organised by a group of exiles to co-ordinate the sending of letters to the Council.
