Question of the Week

Who will go down?

Pair On Trial

Date: 09/07/2002

SCUNTHORPE'S Lee Hodges, released by the Iron at the end of last season, has gone on trial at Blundell Park, and has been joined by 20-year-old Newcastle defender David Cohan.

Hodges made 130 appearances for the Iron in midfield after joining from Southend for £130,000 in 1999. Hodges was named in the PFA Division Three team of the season last year, and was a Glanford Park regular, but chose to be released from his contract when it expired in the summer.

"We watched him on a number of occasions last season and we're aware of him and what he can do," Paul Groves told the Grimsby Telegraph.

"He's just on trial and we'll have to see how it progresses. He's a wide player and there's not a lot of competition for places in that area at the moment. We're looking into every avenue."

  • One of the first matches to be shown on Sky TV under the new agreement with the Nationwide League will be the Town's first home game of next season against Derby. The match on August 17 has been provisionally selected to be one of the first of the 60 league and cup games to be televised this season by the Satellite channel. If selected the kick-off time will be moved to 5.30pm on Saturday evening.

  • Town's first pre-season game of the season is at Brigg Town on Saturday (3pm), when Paul Groves is expected to name a near-first choice XI.
