Who will go down?

The BP Comedy Show

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 11/09/2002

IT is interesting to get the players views of last night's game. The supporters have had no problem in airing their views which one would hardly call complimentary.

The Grimsby Telegraph spoke to Kabba, Cooke and Manager Paul Groves to get their views and apart from Groves, who was obviously at another game altogether, their views were similar to those of supporters.

"It's just frustrating. We can't seem to score goals and if we don't score goals then we're not going to win matches," said Kabba.

(He has obviously been reading the rules of the game.)

"When I was at Palace I was scoring in nearly every game and I thought I'd come here and that would carry on."

(Obviously unaware of the Blundell Park bogie!) "I haven't had that many chances but I feel that, if I do, I'll be able to stick them away. Hopefully, that will come soon."

(It will Mr Kabba as soon as we get a midfield who know what its job is)

"It seems that we haven't got any luck at the moment and it's the same for us all. We're working hard, but it's not happening for us in front of goal." Said Cooke. "There's no point us having all the possession and then getting to the final third, not going anywhere and not putting the ball in the net."

(Now there is a lad going places. He just might have a clue!)

Manager Paul Groves however presented his own comedy show

"I think we had the lion's share of the play (which is a good indication of why he should be sitting on the bench.) and the chances but when you're having your spell of the game you have to capitalise and score."

"When you have that much play and that many opportunities you deserve to get something from it. We played slightly different and went a bit more direct but they ended up on the edge of their own box."

"I don't think the self-belief is going. Nobody's head has gone down and they keep working hard. They need luck and a goal and that will give everybody a lift."

And Groves added the best punch line for years. "The lack of goals has been an issue here for some time. It hasn't just sprung up today. We've lost Michael Boulding and Bradley Allen and they were a settled partnership.

No we never lost Bradley Allen Mr Groves! You got rid of him! Remember?

"Paul Robinson and Steve Kabba looked promising at times and hopefully we can build on that."

"I thought the fans were tremendous, especially in the second half. They made a lot of noise.

"Things aren't going our way but they got behind us and it did make a difference. I want to say thank you for that."

A nice touch Mr Groves considering the price they paid to watch you in action last night. Some may not return!!
