The £1-million Relegation Battle!

SHOCK news today from Grimsby chairman, Peter Furneaux when he revealed that relegation would be 'catastrophic and cost the Mariners almost £1-million."

Furneaux told the Grimsby Telegraph that the current uncertainty over the club's League status next season is the chief reason that none of the 11 out-of-contract Town players have been offered new deals.

The loss would be incurred from the loss in gate receipts, commercial income and season ticket sales and that worry is preventing the club from entering into talks with first-team regulars aout their futures.

"It's a difference of about £900,000. That's the sort of money we could be losing. That makes a tremendous difference to our cash flow and that's the reason that we're holding off talking to the players."

"We don't want to demotivate them. We want to make them the best offer we can. To lose the money allocated to the first division teams and have lower gates as well would be catastrophic in the second division.

"To start to commit ourselves further at this stage is a position that no prudent businessman would want to be in."
