The Clive Platt Negotiations Are Over!

GRIMSBY Town's bid for Clive Platt is over. The player rejected an improved offer from Paul Groves who is now searching again for a frontman after finding no joy with his initial list of targets and is currently talking to a veteran striker with a view to a short-term deal.

Platt was made an increased offer after the Mariners returned from their pre-season tour of Ibiza. But Platt does not fancy a switch to the East Coast, with Groves admitting he is not the only one.

Groves told the Grimsby Telegraph; "It's just about dead now. There's still no sign of him changing his decision and it's time for us to move on. We're getting to the stage now where we have spoken to a lot of strikers and very few of them have even got down to money. The proven players, the ones that fit the bill for us, have all gone. There's nothing left."

"We are having to look at younger, unproven players and one old player who could provide a short-term solution. We are also having to look at a season-long loan but those players, again, are often young and somewhat unproven."

Groves has spoken to over a dozen strikers including Platt, Dean Windass, Bruce Dyer, Jack Lester and Tommy Mooney. "We targeted this area early on because we knew it was the problem area. That's where people pay all the money because strikers can win you games at the drop of a hat."

However, Phil Jevons is set be free to play with his financial shackles from last season being readjusted and along with Jonny Rowan, he too is a possible starter.
