Question of the Week

Who will go down?

Two More Sign!

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 07/08/2003

JASON Crowe and Mike Edwards have both signed new deals with Grimsby today, with Town boss Paul Groves just waiting to see if Dutch striker Laurens Ten Heuvel can agree terms with the club on a new contract before tomorrow's noon deadline.

Right back Jason Crowe has signed a two-year deal, whilst fellow defender Mike Edwards has put pen to paper on a one-year contract. Sheffield United are prepared to release Ten Heuvel on a free transfer, but he will have to take a pay cut if he is to become a Mariner.

"We're talking about the money and we're in the middle of negotiations," Paul Groves told the Grimsby Telegraph. "I think we'll know a bit more today as to when, or if, it will be wrapped up."

Meanwhile Groves was delighted to have two more faces at the club, which brings the total number of players signed over the summer to seven, one of the highest totals of any club in Division Two over the break, as Town try to bounce back to Division One at the first time of asking.

"Jason [Crowe] is 24, he's played in the first division and has an excellent pedigree," the Town boss told the Grimsby Telegraph. "He's a natural athlete, is naturally fit and he can play in a few positions. He is a very good addition to the squad.

"Some people have overlooked Mike Edwards a bit. He's only 23 but he's played more games than the majority of people already. He's experienced, very versatile and a good reader of the game. They'll both be in the squad on Saturday."

If Town fail to sign Ten Heuvel by noon tomorrow they will have an extra 24 hours to be able to register a short-term loan player in time for the Plymouth game.
