Warning To Yobbos'

GRIMSBY Town Football Club and the police have issued a joint statement welcoming true fans but warning the trouble makers who present a bad image of the club. The statement will be welcomed by the fans and supporters who too are tired of the mindless yobbos who purport to be supporters.

The statement taken from the Grimsby Telegraph reads: "We would like to welcome all football supporters this season and we like you all to help us maintain a trouble free and safe environment at Blundell Park, so that people can come and enjoy the game.

"Grimsby Town FC and Humberside Police will continue to work closely together to ensure that the club does not have any problems inside or outside the stadium.

"Your help is required in this respect, particularly in the following areas:

  • 1 - Racism is not welcome in football and we will work vigorously to support the national 'Kick it Out' campaign. Robust and positive action will be taken with any person engaging in this particularly offensive behaviour.

  • 2 - Violent and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in any form in or around the stadium and we would seek to use any lawful measures at our disposal to tackle this problem, which could include seeking three year banning orders.

  • 3 - Ground regulations are displayed in the ticket office and various points inside the stadium and the safety stewards will ensure that these are upheld. Fans should particularly note the offences of throwing objects, incursion onto the pitch and racial or obscene chanting.

"The police and the club would welcome any information regarding the mindless minority who engage in any offensive or criminal behaviour. Contact can be made with Sgt Lee Dixon or Pc Alan Rutter at Grimsby Police Station who will ensure that any information is treated with the strictest confidence."

"In previous seasons the vast majority of our fans have behaved impeccably and we would again extend a warm welcome to everyone visiting Blundell Park and would also like to take this opportunity to wish the Mighty Mariners a very successful season."

    Thank you all, in anticipation,

TE Rudrum - ground safety officer
Sgt Lee Dixon - football liaison officer.
