Scottish Defender Trial

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 19/06/2004

FORMER Morton defender Paul Gaughan has joined Grimsby on trial. The former Bolton, Nottingham Forest and Rangers Youth Player has been released by Morton, whom he joined from Hamilton where he won a Championship medal and was Player of the Year.

Town boss Russell Slade told Mariners Net: "He's looking for a break and is enthusiastic. We will only take him on for a month. At worst he will provide cover while Greg Young is out with his shoulder.

"He'll get his opportunity pre-season and might be one of those that does exceptionally well and you keep him long-term."
