Town Youngsters On View

By: Jostein Jensen
Date: 08/01/2006

WITH the Mariners having a short break I thought now would be a good time to check up on a couple of Town youngsters who are out on loan to Eastwood Town Football Club.

The first is Matt McKenzie who the Eastwood site says about him; "He is tough and has a fighting spirit l - with a physique to match. He doesn't mess about on or off the pitch and I'd hate to be a striker playing against him as he loves a tackle!

"As a player he's quick, a strong tackler and gives the ball simple. He was a pro with Grimsby Town FC for three years and is a Nottingham lad, living just round the corner from me. It's great to have him in the side and I believe he's about to sign a contract with the Badgers!"

Miles Chamberlain was loaned out to Eastwood December. Not yet 19, Miles is in the last year of his scholarship and has become a regular in the Mariners' reserve side.

I spoke to Malcolm Storer, who is the webmaster of the Eastwood site, about both players and he responded with; "Miles and Alan are doing just great. I talked to Miles' parents at his first game (Rossendale United), and they were amazed when Miles lined up on the left side of defence. Our Manager soon got it right though."

"We won our next two games with Miles in central defence and Alan anchoring the midfield. Both players are far better quality than we are used to! Miles is only 18, but he is a really classy player. Alan is excellent in midfield and never stops running!!"

"They are both with us for at least one more month, but if our Manager can persuade Russell Slade, I am sure their loan period can be extended."

Town Lads in Action

(Eastwood is in the county of Nottinghamshire, in the East Midlands. More famous for D.H. Lawrence than for it's football team. The author of "Lady Chatterley's Lover" was born a couple of hundred yards from the football ground.)
