CURTIS Woodhouse is preparing to make a surprise switch from professional football to boxing after securing a three-year contract with top promoter Frank Warren.
He is expected to make his boxing debut later this year against an unnamed opponent probably at Blackpool.
Woodhouse has already told Grimsby Town, who he joined earlier this season, that he will be leaving at the end of the season to pursue another career in boxing.
Officials at the British Boxing Board of Control are understood to have approved his career change after he passed their medical with a clean bill of health.
Woodhouse was a Sheffield United cult figure and their youngest captain. He also played for Hull City, Peterborough and Birmingham.
