TOWN had to come from behind to overcome Micky Bell's tough Walsall side, but they played well and overall it was a much improved performance by the lads this afternoon.

Phil Barnes. I thought he did OK in the first half, he was rarely tested in goal. During the second half Barnes made some very important saves near the closing stages of the game. 7

Gary Croft. He has a good game, I thought he looked very comfortable and made the position his own. During the second half he dealt with Walsall's continuous pressure. 7

Tom Newey. I thought he had a quiet first half, he didn't really have much to deal with. During the second period he played OK, but it wasn't his best game in a Grimsby Town shirt. 6

Nick Fenton. He looked quite shaky in the first half, the defence looked very nervous as Walsall attacked. In the second half Nick seemed to have a better game. 6

Martin McIntosh. He did OK during the first half; during the second half he won some very important headers to keep us in the game. 6

Ciaran Toner. I thought he played well during the first period of play; he moved the ball around well. In the second half he was quiet and didn't have the same impact as in the first half . 7

Peter Beagrie. He played well, using trickery down the left flank causing problems. He got taken off early in the second half and was replaced by Peter Bore. 6

Paul Bolland. The tough-tackling midfielder had a strong game, he linked up well with new signing Ravenhill. Paul levelled the scores with a well placed finish. He was Town's Man of the Match. Well done, Bolly! 8

Ricky Ravenhill . I thought he had a solid debt in the centre of midfield. He played well and looked very comfortable on the ball. 7

Gary Jones. He had his best game of the season, he linked up very well with Rankin. His good form has come just at the right time with Michael Reddy out for 3 months. 7

Isaiah Rankin. For the whole game Rankin was lively and a real handful for the Walsall backline to cope with. He had a lot of chances during the game, but sadly Ranks didn't convert any of them. 8

Peter Bore (sub). He was quiet when he came on early in the second half but he was there at the right time to head the ball past Clayton Ince. It is now local lad Peter's fourth goal making him our top goal scorer this season. 7
