Question of the Week

Who will go down?

Misery
Misery

Total Rethink Needed

By: Steve Johnson
Date: 02/02/2007

AT the end of October I wrote an article expressing my misery after watching the home match with Notts County. The misery continues and my prediction of the Conference next season is looking uncomfortably imminent.

I have not watched a match since, other than the televised Walsall game, and am looking forward to the away games at Mansfield and Notts County (I live in Notts) about as much as a visit to the dentist.

What is the future? Not the present structure and personnel. I see no future in a fresh manager in the short term, a new ground is several seasons too late. The whole situation needs radically rethinking. There must be a rational youth policy, they will improve and can be no worse than the present collections of loanees, other clubs' rejects and players who have no commitment to the club.

The present manager is not repeating his previous success as he has not only inherited a system of quick fix loans but is continuing the pattern. Who are we bringing through from youth teams? no-one. The McDermotts and Crofts still show commitment; many others show none.

I thought Cardiff was bad but things are getting worse. Bang some heads together, get rid of the Reddy/Rankin brigade who do not care. Get rid of Buckley and Watkiss at the end of the season. The board should either accept their mistakes from Lawrence onwards and either resign or make really radical changes.

Perhaps the Conference will be a belated wake-up call. Two Saturdays ago five ex-Grimsby players scored in League Two. Handyside And Gallimore are alive and well at Hucknall, no good for us now but the former could have given us many more good years of service.

We are not keeping good players. How long before Paterson goes, and are Till and Grand any better than players already at the club?

Take me away Doctor my crossed fingers etc are restricting the flow of blood to my brain as this article shows.
