Patto to Stay at Stoke?

FORMER Grimsby Town loan striker Martin Paterson has been offered a new deal by his home town club of Stoke City, a move which is likely to quash any lingering hopes of Alan Buckley bringing the 20-year-old to Blundell Park.

Paterson was a sensation during his three month loan spell at Blundell Park last season, and quickly became a favourite with the home fans, even during the seven match losing streak at the turn of the year.

After an administrative mix-up led to Paterson returning to Stoke instead of staying at Grimsby until the end of the season, the striker vowed to fight his way into the City first team, which he managed to do so with three appearances in the closing games in the Championship.

Town's only remaining hope of signing Paterson would be on a season-long loan from the Brittania, but it's unlikely either the player or club could be prised away Stoke to spend a season in League Two.

Town do though name another new signing on Saturday and a new striker is high on Buckley's target list following the departure of Michael Reddy and Gary Cohen.
