Squad Numbers Announced

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 10/07/2008

GRIMSBY Town have announced some of their squad numbers for the forthcoming season. Robbie Stockdale has been given Jamie Clarke's No. 2 shirt, with Clarke now on 12. The No. 9 shirt has been left unassigned, with North, Butler and an as yet unsigned mystery striker all vying for it.

Alan Buckley has kept to his word not to favour any defenders as Ryan Bennett has kept his 4 shirt, belying the theory that Buckley's thoughts would be conveyed in the squad numbers. New defensive pair Heywood and Hope have politically been handed the number 5 and 6 jerseys, the reality being two out of these three will normally be our back 2, with Bird and Fenton as backup.

The numbers assigned so far are as follows:

1. Phil Barnes
2. Robbie Stockdale
3. Tom Newey
4. Ryan Bennett
5. Matt Heywood
6. Richard Hope
7. Peter Till
8. Paul Bolland
9. TBC
10. Chris Llewellyn
11. Danny Boshell
12. Jamie Clarke
13. Gary Montgomery
14. James Hunt
15. Matthew Bird
16. Nick Fenton
17. Peter Bore
18. Nick Hegarty
19. TBC
20. Andy Taylor
21.-
22. Nathan Jarman

  • Town have so far sold 1300 season tickets, with sales appraoching £250K, and they expect to sell several hundred more in the 3 remaining days when they are available at a discount.

  • Luton will start next season on an unprecedented minus 30 points after a ruling by the Football League with respect to their insolvency status.
