Corby Humiliate Town

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 17/07/2008

TOWN got off to a poor start in their first pre-season friendly, losing 3-1 to non-league Corby Town, who are effectively three divisions below League Two and part-time. Grimsby's new defence got off to the worst possible start when they conceded a goal from their opponents' first corner after just 65 seconds

Town fought back in the remainder of the first half but the front two of Jarman and North did not make the most of their chances. After the break a second Town team came out, but the Mariners conceded an early goal again. Peter Bore pulled a goal back for the Mariners, but a third goal for Corby with 4 minutes remaining killed the game off.

Town will have to improve if they are to challenge their League One visitors Oldham at Blundell Park on Saturday.

Town (first half): Barnes, Normington, Newey, Bennett, Heywood, Till, Bolland, Clarke, Rhoades, North, Jarman.

Town (second half): Montgomery, Stockdale, Parker, Fenton, Hope, Bore, Hunt, Boshell, Hegarty, Taylor, Butler.

Goals Warren 2, Diggin 77, Battersby 86 (Corby); Bore 81 (Town).
