Beat the Bookies: Week 16

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 19/11/2008

LAST Weekend was highly successful with both tips winning and over 57 quid ending up in the coffers of Beat the Bookies. What's more one of those tips was the Mariners who finally got the monkey of a first league win off their backs.

Home > 2008-2009 Season > Beat the Bookies > Week 16

Grimsby v Bournemouth Despite Grimsby's win last week neither team are doing very well at the moment, and the Mariners are still yet to win in front of their own fans for something like half a season! Grimsby can be backed at 7/5 to win the crunch game, which is probably about right, but not the greatest odds for a team which such a poor record at home. Only you can decide whether it is worth it.

Dag & Red v Notts County Dagenham have really slid down the league in recent weeks, whilst County seem comfortably perched in their customary, safe, mid-table spot. A point is no use to the Magpies and they will be all out to pick up a win at Victoria Road, to follow up on their 4-0 drubbing of Barnet last week.

Rochdale v Luton Another club who must and need to set out to win in every game are Luton. This week they head to in-form Rochdale. Dale are having a good season, but they slip up every now and then at home, and the Hatters are starting to improve and put on a bit of a fight to help them stay up this season. Luton can be backed at 9/2.

Rotherham v Bradford Rotherham have had a couple of bad results recently and their involvement in so may cup games could be catching up with them. Local rivals Bradford are one of the best teams in League Two on their day and could well send the Millers to another defeat. City can be backed at 13/8, and may score a few if the Millers' defence is as generous as it has been recently.

Barnet v Macclesfield Barnet have conceded lots of goals recently, Macclesfield usually manage at least a goal, so this could be a high-scoring game. The Silkmen are worth considering backing at 12/5.

Bury v Gillingham Bury have a terrible record at home (as we well know), and Gillingham are starting to really pick up this season on the travels, having been consistently strong at home but weak away in the early part of the season. Bury's confidence must have gone following the humiliation of losing to ten men Grimsby and another home defeat could be on the cards, which can be picked up for 19/10.

Chester v Aldershot Regular readers will know that we often point out that a team can be weaker than recent form suggests when they have played in midweek and their opponents have not, especially when it was a cup game where the players tend to give absolutely everything. Aldershot may well suffer from their FA Cup Replay success at Rotherham on Tuesday night, even at a Chester side who are bottom of the form league. Chester are 13/8 to win on their own pitch.

This season we will be trying out three different betting strategies:
