Luton Match Called Off!

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 02/02/2009

GRIMSBY'S League Two clash at Luton on Tuesday night has been called off due to the heavy snow in the South East of England. Luton officials decided almost 36 hours ahead of kick off that the match would be unplayable as the pitch at Kenilworth Road is covered with snow.

On the plus side for Grimsby it means extra time for Akpro to recover from the injury which he aggravated against Bradford, and which caused him to miss the Rotherham clash. It also means Rob Atkinson, who received a one match ban for his red card on Saturday, will be suspended against Exeter rather than against Luton.

On the minus side it means Grimsby are beginning to accumulate postponed games, with the number of matches which have been put off this winter now standing at three. Mike Newell's squad will be severely tested over the next few weeks with a schedule of two games most weeks. With more snow forecast in coming days there is always to possibility of further postponements.

A date for the re-arranged fixture has yet to be announced.
