Town Rocked By Injuries

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 13/08/2009

GRIMSBY face their first injury crisis of the season with just two games gone. The Mariners have been rocked by the news that new 'keeper Nick Colgan will miss Saturday's first home game against Crewe after the groin injury which caused him to miss much of the pre-season has flared up again.

Town boss Mike Newell, who ironically spent much of the summer searching for a new 'keeper, has just a day to find a replacement on loan. His alternative is to give a debut to rookie 'keeper Leigh Overton. The 19-year-old played during much of the pre-season, and seemed to gradually improve after a shaky start, so at least has the advantage of having recent playing time with the rest of the squad if Newell goes down that route.

Town's injury crisis deepened further with the results of the scan on striker Adrian Forbes's knee which revealed that the former Millwall player needs an operation and will be missing for at least a month.

Midfielder Nathan Jarman was ruled out for several weeks at the start of the season before a ball had been kicked in anger, and is unlikely to feature again until some time in September.

The Mariners are looking for their first positive result of the season in the opening game at Blundell Park against League Two newcomers Crewe on Saturday.
