Grimsby v Southport Team News

NEW signing Bryan Hughes could make his debut at Southport tonight. The 34-year-old veteran has played in the Premier League for Birmingham, Charlton and Hull. Since leaving the Tigers a year ago Hughes has played just one game - for Burton Albion - and was a free agent when he joined the Mariners.

Liverpool-born Hughes is an attacking midfielder, who normally plays in a central position. The former England U-21 international has signed a contract at Blundell Park until the end of the season.

Town's other option is striker Lee Peacock, who returns from a three match ban resulting from his red card against Kettering.

Southport are without defenders Adam Flynn (hamstring) and Rob Marsh-Evans (ankle).

Striker Steve Daly could return to the squad after an appendix operation, while midfielder Alan Moogan (hip) is a doubt..

Southport, who sit just above the relegation places, beat York City 4-0 at Haig Avenue on Saturday. They lost the previous game 5-0 to AFC Wimbledon, so can be said to be a bit inconsistent!
