Damian Signs. Is it an Omen?

GRIMSBY have signed one player and are close to signing another, but at the same time are fighting off other clubs attempting to lure star striker Alan Connell away from Blundell Park.

29-year-old striker Damian Spencer has today joined from Aldershot, but it could be an omen that the Mariners are expecting to lose Alan Connell as Grimsby have already signed front man Liam Hearn from Alfreton.

The Mariners have received two offers from Football League clubs for Connell, but they have been rejected as "derisory" by the Grimsby Town board. Connell, who scored 29 goals last season, still has a year left on his contract, and it's unlikely he could be prised away for anything less than a a sum well into six figures.

Six footer Spencer has played mainly at Conference and League Two level, but most of his career was spent at Cheltenham where he scored 35 goals in 227 appearances,

Meanwhile Town are hoping to sign Boston defender Shaun Pearson.
