Sam Hatton Signs

FORMER AFC Wimbledon defender Sam Hatton has joined Grimsby in a two-year deal. Hatton played over 40 league games last season in League Two, and prior to that was a regular in the Dons' rise up the non-league pyramid. He mainly plays as a right back.

In total Hatton has played over 200 games with Wimbledon over the last five years, virtually his only club, yet is still just 24 and therefore probably has his best years ahead of him.

When Wimbledon were in the Conference Hatton played twice for England "C", after which he was ineligible once AFC entered the Football League.

Wimbledon decided not to renew Hatton's contract in the summer, which manager Terry Brown described as "definitely one of the hardest decisions I have had to make as a manager".

Hopefully AFC's loss is Town's gain. The Mariners have now made three strong signings for the summer, and have several more to come. This season appears, on paper, to possibly be Grimsby's best chance yet to really make an impression on this division since their relegation from League Two in 2010.
